The Untamed Lady… Two Italian geniuses, Armani and Versace, dropped olfactory bombs that same year as if competing for the most narcotic scent of the decade. To me, Gianni is synonymous with The Untamed Lady: I see her thinking it over, fixing her hair and her extravagant dress, strolling past Ysatis and Coco (who look at her frivolously), ignoring El Diva and Poison. She looks down on them, unbothered by their reactions. She has that exuberance of the 70s and 80s: incense, brassy woods, exquisite moss, fine patchouli, and spices. Also, opulent floral accords. What makes her unique are the resins and balms—tons of myrrh and benzoin—that make her an exotic, penetrating, and voracious woman. A glorious carnation with white flowers accompanies her. It’s an orgy of flowers, balms, resin/incense, and woods of astonishing quality. A bit of patchouli in the background, calm, without stealing the spotlight from the moss. It closes with narcissus and lily root. Imagine walking through the salon and arriving at the door where Giorgio Beverly Hill awaits you for the five o’clock tea. They get along well; they’re the same age and understand each other. I have the early 90s spray version, with colossal longevity and high sillage. Jerry Drake’s review is excellent, and for fans of intense 80s perfumes, this is a MUST.
The unforgettable Gianni Versace was a visionary, a genius, a King Midas who turned everything he touched into gold and became a shooting star and icon in a short time. I had the luck to live through his wild baroque fashion era with bright color combinations. Very few like him have created works that transcend time and return to our reach as witnesses to the golden age of perfumery. Now it’s back in my hands. I don’t remember how many years passed since I held it, nor how many times I wished to smell it again on the silk skin of a woman, capturing its sublime depth and opulence, like an unrestrained train of femininity. This Versace for Women is a marvel. It’s hard to find perfumes this good; their distinct personality and persistent atmosphere make me imagine an elegant woman in heels entering a public space and capturing every gaze. Once Gianni wraps around you, he becomes a second skin, with dark fruits and spices sprinkled with an incredible dirty animal leather. It has a progression of notes, moods, and cumulative effects that create sublime sensations. It evokes an old theater or ballroom with furtive glances and passionate encounters, with aldehydes that stun you at first, but soon you realize the olfactory journey heads toward a floral and spicy opulence with few rivals, powerful, with standout neroli and carnation that slide into the embrace of amber, incense, and a light leather that wraps it like an oriental veil from the Thousand and One Nights. It’s still usable today, and it’s curious to note that when everything has become interchangeable and soulless, Gianni Versace would be even more of a majestic niche. You just have to find it and trust yourself if you want to unleash a spectacular and eternally elegant aroma. Enchanting power made into perfume, highly recommended for anyone who wants to capture the pulse of time trapped in a bottle.
