Descripción

Varensia by Ulric de Varens is a fruity chypre fragrance for women. Launched in 1994, this composition features an olfactory pyramid designed by perfumer Ulric de Varens. The top notes unfold with neroli, orange, mandarin, raspberry, aldehydes, cloves, and bergamot; the heart reveals blackcurrant, cassis, ylang-ylang, geranium, rose, jasmine, and lotus flower; while the base notes settle on oakmoss, carnation, powdery notes, vetiver, sandalwood, benzoin, labdanum, vanilla, and patchouli.

  • The scent is almost nonexistent, and the little bit you can perceive smells awful. It seems like cheap, expired cologne. The promised notes aren’t noticeable at all. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Personally, I find it horrifying. The carnation is extremely noticeable, and that note ruins perfumes for me. It smells rancid, like it’s gone bad; it’s terrible.

  • A disaster. The opening and middle are bitter citrus and hairspray. It’s not a refined bitterness like DKNY; it’s synthetic and plastic. The moss and woods try to fix the mess and modulate that harshness a bit. When it dries down, it becomes more powdery, develops a moderately pleasant aromatic facet, and starts to sound like Cyprus, but it doesn’t convince me. It has very artificial astringency. Maybe there was an intention to create a classic fruity Cyprus with an elegant aura, but something went wrong—dubious raw materials? It has many fans on Amazon and is cheap, but there are cheaper Cypruses that outshine it a thousand times. Any resemblance to Aromatics Elixir is pure fantasy.

  • UDV’s Varensia isn’t bad; it has the DNA of Coco Chanel. Nobody seems to remember it, but for the price, it delivers what it shows. I love how it smells in the room, especially on mature women 45 and up. It’s potent, and I absolutely adore the honey note, which is noticeable throughout the composition. It’s an affordable little perfume for those who can’t quite afford a Coco Chanel. I also see similarities to the perfume Café, another budget-friendly option with Coco Chanel DNA.

  • One of my mom’s favorites. I still have a bottle that’s almost full, and sometimes I mist a couple of sprays on the sofas or curtains. It’s vintage, potent, floral, and aldehydic; the carnation dominates everything, very invasive, typical of those powdery florals from the 80s and 90s. It brings back memories of proud women in knee-length dresses and purses, strolling through malls paying homage to their sexuality.
