Blue Incense by Massimo Dutti

Massimo Dutti’s Blue Incense is spicy, incense-like, and balsamic. The opening is spice and incense with an amber touch, which quickly gives way to a balsamic aroma with a woody-green note, perhaps fir, making it less dark and very wearable during the day. The drydown stays on fresh incense and spices without many twists. It’s not so dark, so it works well day or night. Some compare it to Loewe 7, and I agree, even more so than with Anonyme, though it does share something of that fragrance too. I see it as ideal for daily wear in spring, autumn, and winter, for the office or casual outings. The longevity is good, over 10 hours, though the sillage is average for the first hour before settling down.

A few minutes in, a balsamic note rises, but there’s also a slightly woody-green accord—perhaps fir balsam—that keeps it from feeling too dark; in fact, it’s wearable for daytime. The drydown doesn’t twist much, staying incense-like with some fresh spices. As I said, it’s not that dark, so it works day or night. Some say it resembles Loewe 7, and I agree, even more so than Loewe 7 Anonyme, though it does share some DNA with that scent. I think it functions perfectly as a daily wear in spring, fall, and winter, whether for the office or casual outings. Longevity is good—I’ve gotten over 10 hours out of it—though the sillage is only average for the first hour before settling down.

Blue Incense opens intense, citrusy, with a slight but noticeable sweetness. The blend of incenses (handle with care here) and moss, patchouli, or fir gives it a very green, wet, and natural character; Peru balsam adds the resinous note for extra glory. At first, it might remind you of Loewe 7, but Blue Incense has its own intentions: it’s much greener, more incense-forward, and citrusy, since lime lingers throughout the life of the fragrance. This little gem from Massimo Dutti is no joke—it has already surprised me greatly with Red Evening and Black Evening, both true wonders. To me, Blue Incense feels elegant and nocturnal regardless of the weather because of its fresh touch, which grants great versatility; it’s potent and noticeable, yet not intrusive. Honestly, if a perfumerie house released this, they’d easily sell it for triple its price and receive amazing reviews; it could even be another flanker for Loewe 7, although (now I’ll get pelted with stones) I actually like Blue Incense quite a bit more than the current Loewe 7. In short, if you enjoy incense, patchouli (which shines here), and the scent of a green conifer forest at dawn drenched in dew, try this treasure. It has fascinated me, feels like a true delight, and has completely hooked me. Longevity is very good, projection is good. P.S.: Blue Incense eats up almost any incense in its price range without blinking an eye.

Blue Incense: Starts with cardamom spices and a touch of lemon. Then everything fades, leaving a green and balsamic scent where fir and incense dominate. In the dry down, it’s a green, resinous, and balsamic blend with fir, incense, patchouli, and Peruvian balsam all very present. It lasts about 4 hours and is noticeable for 1-2 hours. It’s green, resinous, and balsamic; it starts spicy and evolves into a very marked Peruvian balsam and incense. Its weak point is the projection and longevity, which are scarce; I would have liked a stronger punch. Regarding the claim that it smells like Loewe 7 or 7 Anónimo, I disagree: although the opening recalls it a bit, it’s totally different, with Blue Incense being much greener and resinous.

To me, it smells more like dry Loewe 7, since it keeps that apple acidity that Anonyme lacks; plus, it has a watery touch.

It’s identical to 7 Anonyme at first, but as it dries down it becomes fruitier and loses that prominent incense and spice note.

I’m as similar to Oud For Glory as Henry Cavill is to me. Either way, its connection to Loewe 7 Anonyme is direct. I’d almost say they’re 99.99999999999% the same.
