Cedar Malaki blends cedar and mugwort into a fusion that feels like softened wood with an almost boozy touch. The green is very vibrant thanks to the galbanum and cypress, while the heather, lavender, and cardamom only leave timid traces. It closes with that sweet tonka that’s already mandatory. It smells potent and lasts a long time, but I have a gripe: the base sounds plastic to me, like play-doh. Even though the rest is high quality, that detail jars with me and prevents it from being perfect.

Alberto Morillas isn’t my favorite perfumer, but how he blends with other styles is exquisite. Here, he camouflages with Ropion’s style in ‘Oud Malaki,’ a version that’s greener, woodier, and more modern. It’s a fougere with modern cardamomo, greenery softened by cedar and amber, plus mature floral lavender. The opening is green and bright with an absinthe accord, the development is boozy with woody cypress. The bergamot helps with vibrant first minutes. Nothing stands out above the rest; the Malaki saga’s patchouli and amber are there, but the green and spice accords of the beginning make the difference. If you like Desert Falcon Deluxe, Halfeti, and Mr. Sam from Penhaligon’s, this Cedar Malaki by Morillas will fascinate you. Cheers.
Although Alberto Morillas isn’t my favorite perfumer, he has a gift for blending in with each house’s style. Here, he camouflages with Dominique Ropion’s ‘Oud Malaki’ and updates it: it’s greener, very woody, and modern. It’s a fougere with modern cardamomo, a greenery softened by cedar and amber, and a mature floral lavender. It opens green and bright with an absinthe accord, then turns boozy with cypress adding the wood. The bergamot helps with vibration, though it’s not very noticeable. Nothing stands out above the rest; the patchouli and amber from the saga are recognizable, but the green and spice accords of the opening make the difference. If you like fragrances like Penhaligon’s, this Cedar Malaki will fascinate you.
It smells like shoe polish; I don’t know how Morillas managed that ‘camphorated-alcohol’ accord, surely due to the absinthe and galbanum over dark cedars. Additionally, it starts with a fruity peach note that blends with the cedar. It lasts a huge amount of time and is top-tier quality.
