Papilefiko by Nishane

Not all fragrances convey emotions; most just smell good, but this one transports you to places you’ve never been. Papilefiko takes me straight to a pine forest with lavender growing at its feet. The nature and calm it gives me fell me in love. Right after spraying, it smells powdery, salty, with hyper-realistic cardamom, citrus, and a controlled sweetness. Then comes the modern, clean, green lavender—nothing like an old-fashioned barbershop smell. By the hour, the fir resin shines, the protagonist that builds that forest idea. It smells like touching the bark of a big tree, sweet and natural. Dominique Ropion works it brilliantly, integrating everything so nothing dominates. It’s aromatic, sweet, elegant, and versatile. It lasts over 12 hours with good initial projection, then stays on the skin like a personal bubble but with a trail. Being resinous, I even shower the next day. It works in fresh and moderate climates, doesn’t saturate in heat. Ideal for semi-formal or formal occasions. It’s a modern fougere for young people with a certain style. I’m fascinated by it; it brings calm and is memorable. The materials and composition are a work of art, on par with Nishane. For me, it’s a resounding 10/10.

Papilefiko is my favorite from Nishane; I love that blend of lavender and cardamomo. It smells resinous but isn’t dry or earthy, which I appreciate. The longevity is excellent, over 8 hours, and the projection is top-tier, perhaps the best performance in my entire collection. The Time Capsule line has great proposals. The price is a bit above average, but it’s worth every euro. I like it so much and it performs so well that it could become my signature scent in the future.

A curious and very wearable fragrance. I expected something more closed-off, like a fougère, but it has chords that open up other doors. It starts citrusy and spicy with a very prominent aromatic lavender, yet a sweetness floats over it. Maybe the citrus is sweetened, but that’s the impression it gives. It makes it wearable; it’s no longer a typical masculine fougère, it’s something else. At the end, a mossy facet emerges with that sweet part, reminding me of praliné, similar to Haltane. Being this way makes it super versatile for all ages and occasions. It lasts 8 to 9 hours without being overwhelming in projection. Without an exorbitant price, it’s a great option when you don’t know what to wear and are looking for something without a very marked character.

Now it’s time to review this fragrance I just added to my collection. It opens very green and sharp: citrus, oakmoss, cilantro, and fir give it that earthy green touch. It smells green and spicy, almost with a hint of cumin. The dry down is really good, a green oriental. After half an hour, it turns into a delight with a resinous base, lavender, and jasmine, very pleasant. It’s not groundbreaking, it shares similarities with other perfumes, but this experience is on another level. It’s a blend between fougère and woody. I loved it and recommend it to men looking for vintage, powerful, and refined scents. I see it as timeless and versatile for semi-formal or formal wear. Good longevity: strong projection for the first hour, then it stays in a long-lasting personal bubble. Lasts between 10 and 11 hours on my skin. Scent: 9.5/10, Sillage: 8.5/10, Projection: 8.5/10, Longevity: 9/10.

I tried this fragrance and, based on the ingredients, it was the one I wanted most from the entire Time Capsule line. I really liked it, but right after spraying, it smells very much like BDK’s Gris Charnel; they share that cardamom note, and there’s something else I haven’t detected yet that makes them similar. I still need to test it on skin to see how it evolves. For now, 7.5/10.
