What a find! Like the other Grès fragrances, it opens with bergamot, pear, and a mysterious green note, perhaps galbanum. Flowers emerge quickly along with that charming, elegant, non-intrusive patchouli. It always carries a smoky hint and a buttery leather that ties everything together. I don’t detect the praline, but I do feel its sweetness. It smells like a middle-aged woman, well-dressed and smoking; I don’t know why that association sticks. Perfect for spring and summer evenings, though it falls short in winter. Moderate sillage, lasting 6-7 hours. Versatile enough for shopping or work, no one will complain. Feminine, kind, with a touch of rebellion, as if Miss Dior were hiding to smoke. I love it. 9/10
I bought this during an infernal summer, and at first, the leather hit me hard: sharp, heavy, and unpleasant. But within minutes, it softened too much and vanished in 15… Second chance in cold winter and fresh spring: it’s a whole different beast! It becomes sweet, delicate, refined, and elegant. A non-intrusive delight with incredible longevity, projection, and sillage. I’ll buy another when this one runs out.
I got hit hard with Cabochard Cherie. It’s gorgeous, but the chemistry with my skin is disastrous: it literally makes me dizzy and nauseous. Mistake to buy it knowing it has praline, my hated note. I expected a sweetened chypre, but everything gives in to a milky, cloying, overwhelming praline. At first, it’s heavenly, with ethereal greenery like Chanel 19 or Silences, and citrus freshness of bergamot, pear, and basil with floral, earthy narcissus. The ecstasy is brief; the praline hijacks everything, blending with the leather, the only note that stands out but without improving anything. The rest is a torture that lasts hours and projects all the way to Vladivostok. My skin traps what I hate and lets go of what I adore. Many will love it; it’s a hybrid between a green chypre and La Vie est Belle or Flowerbomb, but don’t buy it blindly. For me, it’s a Frankenstein monster: a beautiful body sewn to a grotesque head that only growls. It hurts that I didn’t love it.
