I’m obsessed with the rose and leather blend. I bought it blind without testing it, after reading tons of reviews and notes. It smells strong, like oud, but more like a tire shop. I can see myself wearing it on a leather-jacketed guy on a motorcycle, at a race track on a Sunday, or in any stylish motorsport setting. It’s intoxicating because the rose saves the rubbery scent and makes it addictive. It’s not really my style, but is it interesting? Absolutely.
Galop d’Hermès smells like freshly laundered saffron rose—super direct and bright. The saffron is intoxicating at first and then slowly fades. I detect a bit of musk, but honestly, a touch of leather on my skin (whereas it seems to catch soft resins, fruit, tonka, and cardamomo elsewhere). The overall radiance is sexy and bold. I appreciate how Hermès tackles a tricky note like rose, which here seems unusually versatile, waxy-waxy-cosmetic, and semi-orientally alluring. Although I have to admit that not everything is rose-colored since it’s pricey for what it offers, I like the fragrance but feel it might wear off on me at some point, which is why I prefer my beloved Twilly. By the way, it certainly smells like the Hermès bag I sniffed at the boutique yesterday.
