I think the 1956 original must have been a beast, because this one, while sometimes feels a bit muffled, is still a total hit on the skin. It has many facets, with a well-ordered shift at certain points, but if you give it a chance, the sensuality of its evolution hooks you: rich velvet notes with a touch of alcohol from benzoin and vanilla, balanced by patchouli, leather, moss, and vetiver spices. It captivates because it is this: sumptuous, multicolored, and ever-changing. The notes intertwine, loving and dragging each other along. The peach has ripened in the must, a sweet leather wraps around a fairy-tale rose dampened with neroli dew, the jasmine is top, and the candied orange is there to be bitten into. It’s a magnificent perfume with good longevity and a soft-to-medium sillage, modern yet with a classic soul that I love.
