James Heeley has several fresh perfumes for summer. Menthe Fraiche is okay but a bit plain, and Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements smells a little like dish soap. However, this Verveine is magnificent. It has all the qualities of a light summer fragrance but with enough intensity to stand out. The best part is the bergamot—refreshing, like smelling the juice in a glass. The note is light and pleasant because its acidity isn’t sharp; it smells incredibly real. Upon opening, the bergamot is boosted by a crunchy, slightly bitter rhubarb, which I only notice clearly at first. After that, lemon balm dominates the entire scent until the end, alongside the bergamot. That green, soapy smell from the lemon balm is what gives it the intensity I mentioned. I’ve worn it for a couple of weeks straight in already warm weather and during hard work, and it performs exceptionally: it refreshes you, gives you energy, makes you feel clean… and on top of that, it lasts about half a day.
