  This fragrance has an undeclared sweet note (probably Tonka Bean). The bottle is gorgeous, and the scent is just as beautiful. As a collector, I would buy it. It reminded me of several current fragrances (perhaps its weakness: it lacks strong ‘personality’ of its own) that I can’t quite identify right now, but it’s pleasant. Best for temperate-to-cold weather.

  I haven’t changed my mind about this fragrance today, even though I now own two bottles (yes, two). I also tested it in the heat; while it’s still best for cold weather, I didn’t dislike its longevity. However, it truly shines in temperate-to-cold climates. Ulric de Varens’ ‘Varens Homme Silver’ is exquisite and worthy of its aromatic family: Oriental Fougère. With a blend of bergamot, spices, apple, tobacco, and vetiver, it’s nearly impossible not to like it. Whether it’s unique or common, or its performance (which varies by skin pH, but works well for me luckily), are other matters; the notes themselves are a total success.

  Sweet and vanilla, reminiscent of Calvin Klein’s Obsession. Don’t wear it in the heat. Rating: 6/10.
