U by ADOLFO DOMINGUEZ for men has a pleasant but unremarkable opening. On spray it presents that typical aromatic aquatic musky scent of generic supermarket cologne, which goes unnoticed although as it develops, it becomes a quite acceptable fragrance. It starts with a citrus blend of bergamot and grapefruit, with a marked harsh, rough and skin-like sharpness, as is almost always the case with grapefruit, one of the most difficult notes to work with, since it is not likable at first sniff, as orange or lemon usually are. If to this somewhat sharp aroma you add a fairly prominent green apple and the familiar marine note of calone, you get that scent so typical of the early 2000s. An aromatic blend that is oxygenating and aquatic but that personally turns my stomach a bit. Not that it is unpleasant or ugly, but it is a type of cologne that does not really suit my personal tastes. In its favor it has its excellent longevity, for an aquatic of these characteristics. Its sillage is moderate but present. I sense it has a touch of Iso E-Super that pairs well with this type of olfactory family. It is not a starring Iso E-Super in the style of a Terre d’Hermès or an Encre Noir Pour Homme (with its vetiver or violet facets) but it intensifies the ozonic and aquatic notes, allowing them to last substantially longer. White musk with a hint of sandalwood and a camphoraceous touch from a mentholated mint envelops U by ADOLFO DOMINGUEZ for men, from start to finish. I have to admit that this whole blend is very well put together and offers a fairly rounded product in what later became a Bleu de Chanel or a Sauvage by Dior, although these have developed greater complexity and sophistication. The value for money is magnificent and for those who love this Aquatic Musky Olfactory Family, it is a highly recommendable product. Relaxing, clean, fresh, oxygenating, optimistic, cheerful with elegance and very wearable in warm weather. A shame it was discontinued because it occupies a niche of scents that is not very common today.
