I 100% agree with @DrPerfum. It had been a while since I tried animalic oud, so I received a decant of Purely Orient Tonka. At first, that manure scent gave me a real jolt and I frowned, thinking, ‘Oh great, this is the oud.’ But once it dried down, it became super creamy and sweet; while the animalic touch is still noticeable up close, it’s a perfume meant to be worn in the air, not right against the skin. I, who hate animalic notes, absolutely love it, though I still haven’t dared to wear it on my clothes.
Tonka opens with a good dose of barnyard oud, a manure-like scent at the start that fades significantly within half an hour and blends into a top-tier sweet tonka bean. Plus, that animalic touch transforms into something reminiscent of broom grass. You can smell it in the whole room with just one spray, but 3 or 4 sprays leave an incredible trail wherever you go. It’s very potent and lasts forever. The presentation is top-notch, one of the best I’ve seen. EDIT: To those who criticize, let me clarify that it’s not meant to be smelled right up against the skin, but rather the scent it leaves in the air. That part is excellent. If you smell it up close, most people probably won’t like it. And I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t like animalic notes, but here it’s blended perfectly. Better not to opine if you haven’t tried it. In the end, I bought the full bottle and truly enjoy it.
