  • A great proposal from Atkinsons with rum, vanilla, and cocoa, though it might fall short if you’re looking for something potent. Opens with an explosive, strong, and alcoholic dry rum, very promising. After 5 minutes, the intensity drops, leaving a sweet, unisex scent of vanilla and powdered cocoa, quite linear until the end. It’s original; I can’t find any similar fragrances, though it vaguely reminds me of Profumum Roma’s Sorriso. Very pleasant, versatile, and suitable for spring, fall, and winter. Moderate intensity, medium-low sillage. Lasts 4-6 hours with decent projection, but on the skin, I feel it lasts 8-10 hours without issues.

  • By the bottle, believe me, it’s a fine perfume. It lasts forever. I consider it for adults. Very hard to find in Mexico. Not unisex. Greetings.

  • If the bottle isn’t deceiving, it’s a high-quality perfume that lasts forever. I see it as ideal for adults, and in Mexico, it’s a hard-to-find treasure. Not unisex. Cheers.

  • Got this during a decant swap and absolutely loved it. Perfect for mild days, the office, or even evening wear in fall and winter. I get a lot of rum and cocoa, but what really stands out is the heliotrope; it reminds me of the luxury car air fresheners my dad used, which brings back childhood memories. Sounds weird, but that’s exactly why I like it. Lasts easily 8 hours and makes me feel youthful. If Ch Men Prive doesn’t last for you, go for this: niche aroma at almost designer prices.

The rum it shares with my favorite, Bentley for Men Intense, attracted me, and that’s the only thing in common. The rum and cocoa blend dominates so much that it leaves little room for anything else before disappearing. It has a loud opening that follows you for a short while, leaving a contradictory sensation, although the name fits perfectly for something from Albion. Curiously, it reminded me of Lope de Vega speaking of Álvaro de Bazán: ‘The fierce Turk at Lepanto… they had to see me with terror.’ Good luck, gentlemen!

I was attracted by the rum base it shares with Bentley for Men Intense, and that’s the only similarity. The combination of rum and cacao takes up so much space that it barely leaves room for anything else before disappearing. It has a loud opening, barely accompanies you, and leaves you with a contradictory sensation, although it is a name success for an Albion perfume. The curious thing is that it reminded me of some verses by Lope de Vega for D. Álvaro de Bazán: ‘The fierce Turk at Lepanto, the French at the Third, and the English in every sea, had cause to fear me…’. Good luck, Gentlemen!

  • This has nothing to do with cH Men Privé or other perfumes declaring easy rum notes or designer. Hard and dry screen time that reminds me of Gucci Guilty Absolute for the bitumen smell. I gave it to a friend and she said it smelled like alligator soap. It’s interesting to have a sample; I bought it in England and 5 ml are a fortune, but as an olfactory experience it’s good, reminding me of a rum barrel stored on a pirate ship, perfect for bars if you want to go the tough-guy route. Cheers.

  • What an interesting and unexpected perfume from Atkinsons. I’d already read about this alcohol-vanilla composition and it smells exactly as I imagined. It opens with a prominent combo of vanilla-rum reminiscent of The Kraken, accompanied by cocoa enhanced by heliotrope; as it dries down, the heliotrope with cardamomo gives that powdery sensation. It feels sweet, powdery, alcoholic, and very elegant. Very unisex, though sometimes it leans feminine, but it maintains a solid balance. Pity it’s timid on longevity, about 5 hours on skin and clothes, but that alcohol-vanilla scent surprised me. Notable projection for the first hour, then drops to personal aura. Recommended for all-day wear in Autumn/Winter with a reapplication at 4 hours. Ideal from casual to formal, perfect for cold evening events. Other options from the house might also be interesting.

Well, what an interesting and unexpected Atkinsons perfume. I had already read about this alcoholic vanilla composition and it smells exactly as I imagined. It opens with a prominent vanilla-rum combo reminiscent of The Kraken, accompanied by cacao boosted by heliotrope; the latter with cardamoms generates that powdery sensation as it dries down. It feels sweet, powdery, alcoholic, and very elegant. Very unisex, even smelling feminine at times, but it carries a solid balance. Pity it’s shy on longevity, about 5 hours on skin and clothes, which is a shame because that alcoholic vanilla scent surprised me. Notable projection for the first hour, dropping drastically to a personal aura perfume. Recommended for Autumn/Winter, any time of day, with reapplication at 4 hours. Suitable from formal-casual to formal wear, ideal for cold evening events. I consider other options from the house are also interesting.

Pirates Grand Reserve is different and yet follows trends. Curiously, I perceive smoky notes and an undeclared leather at the beginning, then it opens into a spicy cacao submerged in rum surrounded by flowers. The combination is good, although the leather distorts the Caribbean feeling a bit. The scent is pleasant, comforting, and energizing, with a risk of generating addiction. Later, vanilla takes the forefront, but I still smell the sweetened leather, though weaker. The rum is now secondary, which is a pity because alcoholic accords in autumnal scents are good. The whole smells good; cedar is added and the aroma becomes soft thanks to the vanilla and heliotrope. It remains slightly woody, softly vanilla, and warm. The leather weakens but crosses through occasionally. It’s a pleasant fragrance that, with a more solid structure, could be a top, but the durability is weak. Although it triumphs after a biting start, it stays in the background with bursts that remind of its presence. It offers nothing new, but has charm, especially for fresh months.

  • Sempiterno

A gem from Atkinsons, my first niche fragrance. It’s not for everyone or a compliment bomb; it has a unique scent that requires knowing when to use it. An autumnal aroma with an explosive rum and leather opening, drying down to something powdery like gunpowder, evoking Sir Francis Drake. Lasts more than 7 hours with medium sillage (about 1 meter). It’s not casual or versatile; it’s for autumn afternoons strolling in the park, a coffee, or a semi-formal occasion in a suit.

  • Sempiterno

A pretty special Atkinsons perfume, my first niche. It’s not for everyone, nor a bomb of compliments; it has a particular and unique scent you need to know how to wear. Autumnal aroma with an explosive opening of rum and leather, and as it dries down it becomes powdery, as if it had gunpowder, ideal for whoever was Sir Francis Drake. Longevity is very good, over 7 hours, average trail, noticeable at one meter. It’s not versatile or casual; it’s for autumn afternoons walking in the park, or perhaps some semi-formal occasion, suit and tie.

  • You’re going to tell me I’ve lost my mind, and you’d be right. But I can’t help it. After several failed attempts to find an alcoholic perfume, I settled on this Atkinsons gem. Why? Because, although the first test seemed to have a dirty edge (and what smells dirty isn’t perfume), in subsequent wears that sensation vanished, giving way to, hold on, alcoholic and sweet Teint De Neige. Just as I feel it, I’ll tell you. I’ve worn Don Lorenzo Villoresi’s masterpiece, especially the EDP, many times. If you compare them side by side, they’re very different, but my olfactory memory brought back the powdery sensation typical of Teint De Neige when I sprayed the Pirate on my skin. A very strange thing. Strange with a capital S. Because the Pirate is sweet, a tempered Bayley, very rich and flavorful, but without a trace of dusty rose. And yet, it dusts, it powders. How did they do it? No idea, I’m not a chemist. On my dry skin, it doesn’t last long, maybe five hours, and it fades to nothing after the first hour. As you can see: even in performance and projection, it resembles Teint De Neige. To Caesar what is Caesar’s: I met it thanks to a video by Javier Orgaz, who puts it in the clouds. Don’t buy blindly. More masculine than feminine, but in these confusing times with implausible E letters, let everyone make their own cape. End of story.

  • Mr. Baskerville

Perhaps for 21st-century pirates. It’s a tribute to Drake, but watch out for the history: he was an ‘official’ privateer, not a common pirate, and his figure is complex. Does it deserve a perfume? Yes, but perhaps more like Maria Pita, the heroine of La Coruña who stood up to him. The fragrance mixes rum, cocoa, and leather with flowers and wood, a rough point. Ideal for ‘good pirates’ or Peppa Pig-addicted dads. I prefer the natural scent of a brave woman over this invention, which mitigates roughness with vanilla and results in something childish for those who don’t know the life at sea. Longevity is short for the price and projection is just okay, which bothers me, but the essence is good. Try it if you can, it depends on your style.

  • Mr. Baskerville

Maybe for pirates in the 21st century. A tribute to Sir Francis Drake, a ‘gentleman’ privateer who robbed the official thieves. The history is complex, but regarding the scent, Pirates’ Grand Reserve feels more suited to María Pita, the heroine of La Coruña who defended the city from the English. It has rum, cacao, and leather, combined in a way that maybe Drake or Jack Sparrow would have gifted to a lucky woman. The opening features tamed but evident rum, wet leather, and mug chocolate, all wrapped in flowers, wood, and a touch of patchouli for character. Ideal for good pirates and dads addicted to Peppa Pig. I don’t diminish María Pita; I think this perfume would have been worn with more respect than current feminine fragrances with notes of bubblegum and popcorn. I prefer the natural scent of that woman over Atkinsons’ invention, just for the taste of smelling someone with María Pita’s spirit. I like it more as a scent than as a concept. It’s not overly sweet, but interesting; the vanilla adds a sweet touch that mitigates harshness and modernizes the whole thing, even infantilizing it for those who imagine the hardness of those times without internet or GPS. The longevity is short for the price and the projection is just right, which bugs me because the fragrance itself is good. I’d recommend trying it, then it depends on each person.

  • They say it’s discontinued, but it’s an absolute beast: rum with a leather touch, blending into a vanilla and chocolatey base. Like many in this style, it stays a bit quiet in the background.

  • Honestly, it took me a while to accept it—I’m not really a perfume person—but that distinct vibe hooked me. I’m giving it everything: 5/5. It’s one of the best I’ve ever owned.
