The original Sunflowers smells great, but I don’t get why they’ve released so many versions. This latest one, Sunlit Showers, brought me a flash of the past: summers at the community pool, chlorinated water, tanning lotions, and mats. It smells like youth, vacations, and a crew of friends. It actually made me tear up twice because that time has passed; now, in my maturity, this perfume is for my daughter or a girl aged 15 to 25. The bottle is identical to the original, but the liquid is pale yellow, not orange. The name ‘Sunlit Showers’ fits, though I’d call it ‘Summer Joy’ or ‘Summer Bliss’.

I bought this blindly because of the tester price, and I was disappointed. I expected something better, and it has nothing to do with the original Sunflower. It’s fresh, very soft, and aquatic, but not tropical. At the base, there’s the warmth of skin in the sun and a very faint sweetness, something marine. It has almost no sillage and lasts about 3 hours on my skin. I’ll use it during the day in summer, but I didn’t like it.
This fragrance caught me off guard. I never imagined it would truly smell like summer, but it does. It’s fresh without being acidic, sweet without being overpowering. It smells like a summer dawn, pure joy, dry sea salt, with a soft violet sweetness… simply delicious.
I was blown away by this fragrance. I didn’t think it would truly smell like summer, but it does. It’s fresh without being sharp, sweet without being overpowering. It smells like a summer morning, like joy, like dry sea salt with a soft violet sweetness… simply delicious.
I don’t care if Sunflowers ran away like the plague; this flanker has me hooked. Sunlit Showers smells like the wet greenery of a succulent with incredible subtlety, and it’s no surprise it strongly reminds me of the now-discontinued The Spirit of Moonflower by The Body Shop, that rare gem inspired by the legend of a cactus that bloomed in the Californian desert only when it rained. Perhaps out of nostalgia, I remember the original as even more aquatic and light. Sunlit Showers is more exuberant, with an overflowing opening that throws out acidic citrus confetti (the red currant is fantastic) to say it’s not going to bore you. The floral heart is imposing and sensual, featuring big violet and magnolia, contained and accompanied by a herbaceous touch and a peachy background. The base notes aren’t very noticeable, just a tiny bit of musk and a distant amber. The acidic and green nuances harmonize perfectly with the floral depth, creating an EDT of crystal-clear lightness and transparency. Smelling it is like gazing at the surface of the sea or a lake with half-closed eyes against the backlight, ideal for strolling on breezy summer days. I don’t care about longevity because for me, what matters is the evocative power; or at least, the ability to tell me something, and Sunlit Showers tells me stories of past, present, and future summers. Like other flankers, it’s unfairly relegated to sales when there are aquatic trifles being sold like donuts and getting more appreciation just for having good marketing campaigns.
While running away from the original Sunflowers, some flankers drive me crazy, like this Sunlit Showers. It evokes the aquatic greenery of a succulent with incredible subtlety, reminding me of the discontinued The Spirit of Moonflower by The Body Shop, inspired by a cactus that only bloomed in California after rain. Maybe I’m longing for that even lighter scent. It’s lush, with a bright, tart citrus opening (the red currant is fantastic) that never gets boring. The heart is floral and sensual, featuring contained violet and magnolia, with a touch of herbaceousness and peach in the background. The base is subtle, with a light musk and distant amber. The green and acidic nuances harmonize with the flowers, creating a crystal-clear EDT. Wearing it feels like seeing the sea against the light, perfect for a breezy stroll on a scorching summer day. It doesn’t matter how long it lasts; what matters is its evocative power. It tells stories of past, present, and future summers. Like other flankers, it’s unfairly relegated to sales, when there are aquatic trifles sold like donuts just because of strong marketing campaigns.
