The moment I opened my dark blue miniature, an aroma from another time embraced me: aldehydes and opulent flowers in perfect harmony with spices and a touch of animal notes. It’s a deep, bright floral scent, just like the bottle. I imagine strolling through Parisian streets under the Eiffel Tower, savoring mystical balms and earthy notes weaving a subliminal past. A wonderful territory with so much charisma that any vintage lover would desire.

SOIR DE PARIS was born in 1928 by Ernest Beaux, the genius behind Chanel’s No. 5, and was recreated in 1992. It was one of the first to target the middle class with luxury quality, achieving worldwide success. The current EDP version comes in an elegant cobalt blue bottle with a silver cap. Spraying it smells like those old perfumes my aunts wore in my childhood; it instantly transports me back to my youth. It’s a harmonious floral-woody scent with a powdery touch; even though it doesn’t contain aldehydes, it feels like it does. Iris and violet stand out. Its dry-down is soft and wonderful. It shares the DNA of No. 5 but is distinct: while Chanel didn’t hook me, this one has won my heart. It has moderate sillage and lasting longevity. It’s feminine for any age, though an elegant man could wear it too. Put on a light, fitted dress, high heels, and an updo, spray it fearlessly, and you’ll be the queen at any cocktail party.
