Well, I can say that it doesn’t smell like Vanille Fatale, at least as far as I remember because it’s been a while since I’ve tried it, but I can say that to Maison Margiela BTF it’s not that it resembles it, it’s identical. I say this after having had 4 bottles of By the Fireplace in my life and I can say without being mistaken that it’s the most accomplished inspiration I’ve had in my hands. While other perfumes fail to replicate what By the Fireplace does, this one achieves it quite successfully. Performance? It’s not the best in the world but it’s within the acceptable for a perfume of these characteristics, being enjoyable for about four or five hours, even more depending on the skin. Developing very well within the complexity that Maison Margiela has in that perfume, Maison Alhambra does an outstanding job here. That toasted vanilla at the end, that sweet touch, gets very close, so much so that I’ll postpone opening the original for a long time and use this one… It’s a great alternative considering that BTF costs four times more. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for the By the Fireplace experience, and I recommend it with my hand on my heart. You won’t regret it. The negative comments there are here I think they need to train their nose a little and if possible, take it out of their ass. Because this perfume is at a very high level and even more at this price. You can’t go wrong, you’ll thank me later.
Matter of taste.. very strong the smell of tobacco and leather. A very mature smell for me
The official inspiration of this perfume is Tom Ford’s Vanille Fatal. I don’t have that one, but I do have By the Fireplace and I have to say it resembles it a lot. I have on one wrist By the Fireplace and on the other this one. The difference is noticeable. Let me see how I say it.. BTF tries to evoke an atmosphere and it achieves it. Smoked oud & vanilla tries to evoke another perfume that tries to evoke an atmosphere. Does it achieve it? I’d say yes. When BTF runs out, I’ll buy it again without a doubt. But this one that only costs 20 euros and smells similar, it will make me wait to buy the first one because I can wear it in informal situations and leave BTF for formal or special ones.
