Royale Ambree by Legrain

This cologne is super masculine and delicious; I absolutely love it. I’ve already gone through four bottles of the spray. I’m obsessed with soft, fresh colognes—perfect for bedtime.

The Eau de Cologne Royale Ambree by Legrain is a classic in men’s perfumery, very popular in Spain and Europe. The Legrain house proudly displays ‘Since 1943’ (hopefully, right in the middle of WWII and France occupied by the Nazis; that’s something, kids). We’ve heard it a thousand times from our grandparents or parents. It’s charming, fresh, and super economical. It brings a sense of cleanliness, freshness, and good vibes to mature men. I recommend the retro glass bottle version of 200ml, or the plastic one with a vaporizer of 240ml, very comfortable for travel, for just 5-6 euros (or less in neighborhood drugstores) if you’re new, hate splashes, or don’t want to spend more than 5 bucks on a cologne that smells like ‘uncle uncle’. Thanks to its intrinsic lavender touch that gives it strength, masculinity, and some longevity (about 20-30 minutes on the skin, with a trail of 20 cm for 5 minutes), it moves away from typical unisex citrus and herbal waters and becomes an essential in every serious man over 40’s bathroom cabinet. Stay healthy and light up with joy.

I don’t know what’s going on with this cologne; I see a mushroom-like finish that scares me. It must be that ‘ambered’ note. If it were in the woods, like pu-erh tea, it would be exquisite. But with the freshness of lemon and rosemary, it’s like eating chocolate with mayonnaise.

A very pleasant surprise. I didn’t know about it until recently and was quite surprised when I tried it. @Maeva’s review is very informative and accurate about the notes, so I recommend reading it. I see it as a pleasant alternative for mild and summer seasons. I agree that its opening is rough and a bit dry, but curiously it has a very pleasant and appropriate effect for moments requiring a revitalizing break. It’s a classic eau de cologne designed for personal enjoyment. Although the longevity is short and the projection is limited, the quality/price ratio is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Perfect for staying in after a good shower. Smells great, like a classic cologne. It doesn’t last long, maybe two hours max. It’s great for the whole family—fresh and pleasant; while it lasts, it wraps you in a scent that brings serenity and calm. Best for outdoors in moderate climates, neither too cold nor too hot.

Royale Ambrée definitely doesn’t carry amber as its name suggests; instead, it’s a wonderfully masculine citrus EDT, incredibly refreshing, with a longevity of about two hours and priced like a sandwich. It’s an excellent idea if you want to start a diet while still smelling like a lemon tree under the Mediterranean sun: skip the bakery and head straight to the supermarket perfume aisle. Simple and discreet, but noticeable during its lifespan. The lavender is barely perceptible and adds a pleasant bitter note that gives depth. Ideal for hot days, it’s surprising how good it is considering the price. An evergreen that has survived decades, a timeless and beautiful proposal in its simplicity.

Fantastic description of Maeva. I have a new bottle from the 80s (no barcode or capacity marked), and it’s in perfect condition. I also sensed, as you indicated, an amber base with a slightly resinous lemon. In fact, I thought it had wood and was surprised they didn’t list it. Anyway, it seems your bottles are in good condition since I have the same impression with mine (regarding the sandalwood). It looks like they used to spend more on making great colognes, hehe.
