Back in the fall of 2000, there was an American lawyer, always in a suit and leather shoes, living alone west of a Kentucky field. Wealthy but quiet, his brusque demeanor stemmed from his isolation, living miles from any neighbors. All he had was a giant tree and desolate land; at night, the only company was his Grundig radio. Every time he sat down, he’d put on ‘Folsom Prison’ by Johnny Cash, holding a fine cigar in his hand. It was his routine: smoke a good cigar and take a sip of whiskey every night, as if trapped in a loop. The same image repeated day after day. Over time, he neglected his home; rats, foxes, and any animal that wanted to came in, drawn by the man who watched the clock’s hands and never smiled. Time passed, and the memory’s image grew blurry, until one day the man passed away sitting there, cigar in hand, whiskey glass nearly empty, with animals on the table, staring at that horrific scene. All in his typical suit, with the radio still on. The scent and memories of that moment got trapped in my mind. The perfume bottle’s image is part of this fictional story; when I tried it, I was instantly transported to that imaginary yet so real scene in my head, making it hard not to write it. This perfume has such a realistic olfactory experience that I don’t know if in another life I was that man sitting in the chair listening to ‘Folsom Prison,’ with a glass of whiskey and smoking a cigar until waking up in another dimension.
