Descripción
Noir Exquis by L'Artisan Parfumeur is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. The top notes feature chestnut and orange, offering a fresh and woody opening; the heart reveals a sweet and warm blend of maple syrup, coffee, and orange blossom; while the base settles into an enveloping foundation of vanilla, ebony, tonka bean, sandalwood, and heliotrope.

What a delight! It’s caramelized vanilla with woods reminiscent of oud, very recognizable. The result is a fresh, potent vanilla with a huge trail. Its evolution is curious: at 3 hours, the vanilla seems to disappear, leaving only ebony, sandalwood, and tonka bean, but then it returns and goes as if playing hide-and-seek. I tested it with friends and everyone loved it. Today my clothes still smell of vanilla and caramel. Highly recommended!
Noir Exquis is exactly what its name says: an exquisite black, a classy, present nocturnal dark. It’s a nocturnal oriental, worked with delicacy. The opening reveals everything: it smells of coffee, but not too sweetened by vanilla, rather with sap that gives it a serious, masculine tone. I note a lot of sandalwood and incense. In 20 minutes, the chestnut wraps around it and makes it dry, avoiding it becoming a typical gourmand. It feels like an old tree with mature branches around me, intense, with the ebony adding seriousness. I imagine being in an old cabin at night, looking out the open window at the vastness, drinking coffee in the darkness of the forest, lit only by a fire in the chimney with its celestial smoke. I find it masculine with class to a fault, and the fact that it’s unisex has made me love it; wearing it grants me that part of myself I long for and don’t always possess. I’m not going to let this one pass, it’s coming with me. ADDITION: when I put on Noir Exquis at night, I feel mysteriously wrapped, and when I approach the cold terrace, I feel like I am that chestnut fire; it has me hooked. I notice it more and more masculine, and I like it even more.
This week started badly: a jerk hit my car and fled, but left the license plate holder and registration attached, so I could report it and claim damages. Today I had to deal with appraisers and insurance companies and needed something to wrap me in comfort. Among my perfumes, a generous sample of Casablanca77 from this elixir saved me. I sprayed a few times and, despite the chaos, I flew on a cloud, feeling happy and energized. Noir Exquis is warm, sweet, and comforting, like a partner hugging you. Sometimes creamy, other times dry and woody, but always cozy. It smells like chestnut jam with hints of tiramisu, vanilla, and maple syrup; sweet but controlled by ebony and sandalwood, with smoky and incense-like nuances. It’s semi-gourmand, elegant, and formal, not cloying. Lasts over 8 hours with moderate sillage. Ideal for cool climates, day or night. It conquered me. Although I already own the Al Haramain Urbanist Prive Silver with a similar vibe (that one with hazelnuts and tobacco, this with chestnuts and maple), both give that sense of comfort. Both 100% recommended. As for the car, I’ll have to wait for the companies to sort themselves out.
This week’s start was terrible. On Sunday, I found my car destroyed by a heartless driver who fled without leaving details, but he left his entire defense, including the license plate, hooked onto mine, so I could report it and claim damages. This morning I had to deal with appraisers, mechanics, and insurance companies, and I needed something to wrap around me. Among many in my collection, I noticed a generous sample Casablanca77 gifted me of this wonderful elixir, and without hesitation, I sprayed it on. Despite the bad day, I was in a cloud, felt happy, wrapped in comfort, and ready to face what was coming. Noir Exquis is warm, sweet, and comforting, like a partner hugging you to give you strength. Sometimes it’s sweet and creamy, other times dry and woody, but always cozy. It feels like chestnut jam, sprinkled with tiramisu and drizzled with vanilla and maple syrup, appetizing and sweet, but not excessive; the sweetness is controlled by the ebony and sandalwood woods, playing between them with smoky and incense-like nuances, precious. It conquered me. It’s a semi-gourmand that doesn’t approach current sugary gourmands; its sweetness is measured, exquisite, elegant, formal, unisex, and a pleasure. Performance is good, lasting over 8 hours on skin, with moderate sillage. Due to its warmth, I see it as appropriate for fresh and temperate climates, enjoyable day and night, quite versatile. It left a good taste in my mouth, and I’d mark it to buy, but I have another perfume that satisfies me equally: Al Haramain Urbanist Prive Silver has a similar vibe, though with different notes; where NE puts chestnuts and maple sap, UPS puts hazelnuts and tobacco. Not the same, but the feeling of comfort and warmth is identical. For now, I’m covered with the Al Haramain one, but if you like these aromas, you’re good with either; both 100% recommended. And regarding the car, we have to wait for the companies to agree.
Thanks to a sample from my colleague and friend Casablanca77, I enjoyed this perfume, baptized ‘exquisite’. An opening of vanilla with smoked chestnuts, rich and seductive, that leaves no one indifferent. It has a wide and generous development that generates pleasure. Undoubtedly, a niche perfume worth considering; I used it for lunch, but for a serious dinner, it’s its perfect state. Great work.
Great job! Artistic and elegant. It’s a sophisticated, warm nectar that seduces. For now, I highlight the chestnut, vanilla, and coffee, with the rest of the notes in harmony. Due to its strength and character, I don’t recommend it for daily use or in warm climates; it can be heavy. I suggest being careful with over-application.
Grandiose work. Artistic. Elegant. It’s a sophisticated, warm nectar that seduces. For now, I highlight the chestnut, vanilla, and coffee, with the rest of the notes supporting them in harmony. Due to its strength, I don’t recommend it for daily wear or in warm weather; it can feel heavy. I suggest being careful with over-application.
That perfumes and emotions are linked isn’t new. In aromatherapy, many fragrances improve mood and have specific effects. L’Artisan has the talent to create images and states of mind. In ‘Noir Exquis’, the blend of coffee, wood, and citrus makes me think of Christmas markets under the snow, which I love so much, and cozy Nordic cafés. It’s a pleasant, aromatic, and captivating scent, with coffee and chestnut prevailing. It offers decent longevity but is quite soft on my skin. It conveys serenity despite the lack of power and demonstrates that life’s delights are almost always small… (Courtesy of Rafasant).
At first, something acidic with an excellent creamy coffee. It must be the chestnut alongside the coffee, though I can’t identify it well. The vanilla appears early, too soon. After 20 minutes, the initial coffee dilutes and gives way to a pleasant cocoa, thanks to the tonka bean. Heliotrope sweetens the fragrance and makes it slightly spicy. At the end, a chocolatey, vanilla base with a touch of acidity.
Acidic at the start with a very creamy, excelsa coffee. It must be the chestnut next to the coffee, but I can’t identify it. The vanilla jumps the phases and I appreciate it early on, when it should come later. At 20 minutes, the initial coffee dilutes and picks up a cocoa aroma, originating from the tonka bean. Heliotrope increases the vanillic character and makes it slightly spicy. Finally, it settles into a chocolatey, vanillic, and slightly acidic base.
I just finished my decant and never fully understood if it convinced me: some days smelled like Starbucks coffee with extra ethyl maltol, others more woody with chestnuts as the main note, syrup, and tonka that sweetened it just a bit. The dry down is usually a spiced chestnut cake, similar to By the Fireplace by MMM, but more syrupy and less smoky. It projects little and doesn’t have rocket fuel longevity: about 8 hours in winter. I had high expectations and, to be honest, it disappointed me a bit. Although it’s a pleasant unisex gourmand for cold climates, it has that chemical sweet aftertaste that doesn’t convince me and ruins the experience. Pleasant: 6/10. Interesting: 6/10. Versatile: 7/10. Original: 6/10.
Almost my signature scent for autumn and winter. The one that suits me best, the one that never gets old; it wraps and warms you. It’s like holding a hot cup in your hands when it’s cold or raining, a blanket in winter, a wonder. It’s sweet without being cloying or edible; it remains a perfume. Honestly, it doesn’t smell like chestnuts; the official source mentions marron glacé, which has nothing to do with the chestnut scent we have in mind. To me, it smells like sweetness cut with coffee and woods. Sometimes I mix it with the orange blossom cream from Histoire d’Orangers by the same house and it lasts over 20 hours; although it might seem like they don’t match, it carries a tiny hint of orange blossom and orange. It’s one of those perfumes that when I greet people, they say ‘you smell great.’ Bertrand, genius forever. A 100% Exquisite Noir. Miao.

One of those perfumes that makes people say ‘you smell great’ when I greet them. Bertrand, genius forever. An exquisite black 100%. Miao.
Chestnut! My first time encountering this note. For a Galician, it smells like ‘morriña’ (longing). It’s not roasted or smoky, nor is it marron glacé; it’s more like a slightly syrupy chestnut blending with woods faithful to the name. The coffee pushes to the background with dark nuances. The vanilla is there but restrained, because excess would ruin the balance. Usually associated with winter and boldness, here there is subtlety and versatility. Wore it today in good weather and enjoyed it immensely. It’s a comfortable, elegant semi-gourmand, not invasive and pleasant. Might feel light for some, but for me, it’s perfect. Ebony, coffee, and orange blossom opening. At 26 minutes, it shifts to ebony, sandalwood, maple syrup, and a hint of roasted chestnut. By the 2-hour mark, coffee, labdanum, vanilla, and tonka bean take over. At 2:30, the sweetness leans heavily into the vanilla. By 3:27, projection and sillage drop. At 7:13, it fades from my skin. Medium projection and sillage.
