A gem: exquisite, gentlemanly, elegant, and nocturnal—ideal for a gala. My partner doesn’t quite get it, so I keep it in my cabinet like a treasure, ready to step out, silent, and carrying that James Bond vibe that inspired it.
A classic among classics, supposedly Ian Fleming’s favorite. They say what he imagined of his son, the Bond of the books, was reflected in him: a complex personality, a reputation as a womanizer, difficult, hard, selfish, yet intelligent and possessing a fascinating charm that made him very attractive, despite his misogyny. The difference is that Bond was cruel and violent—something Fleming detested. Raised in a wealthy family, he loved smoking, drinking, luxury cars, and seducing ladies with this cologne. No. 89 is a true barbershop cologne: clean, elegant, revitalizing, and discreet—exactly what you’d expect from a classic early 20th-century English gentleman. Today, it feels anachronistic; it serves more as a complement to formal attire and attitude, far from today’s casual youth style. If you read his books and biography, you’ll understand why Floris No. 89 combined so well with father and son. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have an open mind. I like it, but it’s not a priority for me to buy.
The ultimate classic. They say it was Ian Fleming’s favorite perfume, the creator of Bond; it seems part of what he imagined in the hero was reflected in the author. It’s said Fleming was complex, hard, and selfish, yet had a fascinating charm that attracted women of his time, despite his misogyny. While Bond was cruel and violent, Fleming hated that. Raised in wealth, he loved smoking, drinking, luxury cars, and seducing ladies with this cologne. No. 89 is a true barbershop cologne: clean, elegant, revitalizing, and discreet—exactly what you’d expect from a classic early 20th-century English gentleman. Today, it feels out of step with modern sensibilities; it works better as a complement to a formal style than as something youthful. If you read his books and biography, you’ll understand why it combined so well with father and son. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have an open mind. I like it, though it’s not a priority for me to buy.
Starts with a citrusy, slightly bitter note where lavender takes the lead, then dries down to a very powdery finish with that classic barbershop scent. It’s elegant, but more suited for everyday wear than formal events. Longevity and projection are low; it fades quickly into an intimate scent bubble.
A citrus opening with a slight bitterness where lavender is the co-star, finishing with a powdery dry-down and that typical barbershop scent. Very elegant, but more for everyday wear than formal events. Longevity and projection are low; it fades quickly into an intimate scent bubble.
