Talking about Areej le Dore means talking about a very special house, one that qualifies as ultra-niche. But talking about Manly means talking about one of Areej’s most special fragrances for several reasons: the creation of the formula, the increased batch size, and other matters. Manly opens with a powerful scent and aggressive notes like oud, castoreum, and very soft leather. It also starts out smoky, and that smoke gradually softens as an alcoholic sensation gains prominence. That aggressiveness mellows, evolving into greener notes like patchouli, which together with the resins makes a very addictive combination. In the drydown, there’s a tobacco-vanilla combo; the vanilla takes center stage in the final accords, along with woody sensations. Manly means masculine, and you can already tell it’s a blend very much associated with masculine perfumery. Very balanced and elegant. In my opinion, it’s a great perfume that I really enjoy.
