  Serge Lutens, I’ll admit they’re super personal. Some are absolutely unwearable and others are hard to live with, but L’Eau has a charm, almost childish. It’s aldehydic, musky, and has a floral distinction that I love. It smells clean, a bit retro, and makes you feel great. The citrus touch is sweet, with a morning magnolia—fresh, natural, fleshy petals, wet, with that soap scent. It’s distinct, with that luxurious soapy vibe that reminds you of an expensive, aromatic soap. As my friend said: ‘L’ Eau is L’Eau’. It’s just that, no complications. You either like it or you don’t. But that clean, nostalgic vibe works for me. Good fragrance from Lutens and, above all, wearable.

  L’Eau is like a Scent Skin: soft, light, and comfortable. The citrus opening isn’t as fresh or sparkling as it should be; it feels a bit sharp and artificial, though nothing unpleasant. Soon the aldehydes, green, and herbal notes come in just right, and the magnolia balances everything and brightens it up. As it evolves, it gains that powdery character from the musk, discreet and measured. An undeclared wood note, like cedar, dry as a graphite pencil, appears to accompany the musk almost until the end. I highlight the good balance, longevity, and the aldehyde work, but it lacks quality, projection, sparkle, and soul. Rating: 5.5
