Have you worn Galatea?

Tell us how it opens, how it settles on your skin, how long it lasts and when you wear it.

  1. NOTE: Leather with a fruity twist (worth trying before buying). LONGEVITY: 6h (on skin, it lasts up to 9h). PROJECTILE: Strong for 2.5h, then a personal bubble until the 5h mark. Sillage: Moderate for 2h. SPRAYS: 6 inside, more than 10 outside. REAPPLICATION: After 5h. WEATHER: Cool to temperate. OCCASIONS: Work, night out, and dates if your partner likes it. Galatea is perfect for testing leather without breaking the bank; the quality-to-price ratio is impeccable, hovering around $25. I’m not saying it’s the best leather in the world, but for the price, it’s acceptable. The bottle reminds me of Godolphin by Marly, and others compare it to Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, though I’ve tested it against Rasasi’s La Yuqawam and they’re very similar, although Galatea lasts a bit less (remember the price). For me, 6-7h is perfect, and on skin it easily exceeds 9h. I live in a temperate tropical zone (18-25°C), I wear it almost always at night and it’s luxurious, though it works during the day too if you’re careful. It’s for special occasions: typical of this accord, you either love it or hate it. Just one negative comment (some said it smelled like plastic), but it didn’t bother me; I know it’s not for everyone, but I enjoy it. My partner finds it super masculine, and on romantic dates she asks me to wear it. In short, it doesn’t surpass the great niche perfumes, but most people won’t notice the difference, so use it and enjoy it without overthinking it.

Another Arabic perfume leaving niche houses against the wall… Forget about those who felt exclusive. The era of aromatic democratization has arrived: an excellent scent for under $20 that matches one costing over $100. Godolphin isn’t worth $300, and the excuse of ‘material fineness’ no longer works. No designer brand should cost more than $60 for 100ml, nor should any PDM exceed $150. The tragicomedy is that while EAU approaches sophisticated scents at crazy prices, the traditional ones keep raising theirs. Why? And it’s not because of ‘fineness’.

The opening is horrible, and for me, it lasts barely an hour. It’s too green, smelling of yerba mate with raspberry. Then it shifts to a dry, sweet, and fruity leather that’s very pleasant, finishing with a soft yet invasive vanilla. Try before you buy, because the opening will be unpleasant for many. It lasts decently, around 5-6 hours, and shines more in cold or temperate climates.

What a beast of a perfume! For me, this and Marlin’s Pegasus are identical, except for a barely perceptible green note. On the street, no one could tell the difference. Galatea projects explosively and leaves a trail of meters. It’s a powerhouse for warm climates or crowded places. Green, spicy, and fresh leather notes. Try before you buy!

  5. Polydistortion

I hope I’m wrong and my nose appreciates it more with time, but right out of the bottle, it leaves a bad impression. It smells like glue, specifically paste glue, mixed with plastic, very leaning towards an older lady’s perfume (seriously considering buying it for my mom). One of the most synthetic scents I’ve smelled to date.

  6. Polydistortion

I hope I’m wrong and my nose will pick it up better in the future, but at first glance, it leaves a bad impression. It smells like glue with plastic, leaning heavily towards feminine but for an older lady (seriously considering gifting it to my mom). It’s the most synthetic thing I’ve smelled to date.

  7. Viewsofpf

Bestial, smells like synthetic raspberry wrapped in cheap leather. Herbal notes from the mate and thyme add to it. I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s more suited for an older person with a feminine profile. The top notes are awful, like cumin mixed with oregano, probably due to the thyme and mate blend.

Terrible. It smells like synthetic raspberry wrapped in low-quality leather. Herbal notes from the mate and thyme add to it. I don’t recommend it; it’s closer to a feminine scent for someone older. The dry down is awful, like cumin with oregano, perhaps due to the thyme and mate mix.

To me, this sounds more like a dupe for La Yuqawam than Godolphin. The PDM version smells more like fine leather, while the others are fruitier. At $15-17, I have no complaints, especially since I like Rasasi and now I have two.

  10. I’ve been wearing it for a year; it doesn’t usually stand out for everyone, but I absolutely love it. At first, it smells like mate, then raspberry with leather, an experience you should try before buying.

Galatea is identical to Marly’s Godolphin in scent, but it lasts much longer, about 15 hours on skin. A 10/10. These are unusual scents, but with time, you find them exquisite.

It follows the Tuscan Leather line but with softer leather, accompanied by fruity and jasmine notes. Honestly, it’s very good. Lasts between 4 and 6 hours on skin. Recommended.

  15. Great DNA from PDM; that leather doesn’t bother thanks to the vanilla. 7-8h on skin, decent projection for autumn and winter nights.

  16. See, if you keep going like this, eventually the original will be this one and the Marly one will be the clone… (note the irony).

  17. vutreras

Very rich, it follows the path of Rasasi’s La Yuqawam: leather with red fruits. Cheap and of very high quality.
