Fresh Oud by Rosendo Mateu Olfactive Expressions is an oriental floral fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2020 under the olfactory direction of Rosendo Mateu, this creation opens with a vibrant top note of grapefruit, bergamot, saffron, cardamom, and Ceylon cinnamon. The heart reveals an exotic depth with oud wood, iris, jasmine, and Bulgarian rose. Finally, the base settles on a warm and enveloping blend of sandalwood, leather, vanilla, cashmere wood, amber, white musk, cedar, and patchouli.

Pretty disappointed, I expected more. The opening is very citrusy due to the bergamot, which dominates along with a dark, mysterious, and strong oud, perhaps a bit animalic for beginners. But all of this disappears in 10 minutes, leaving citrus with sandalwood and cedar, supported by a subtle powdery iris and a minimal sweetness of amber. In the end, only vanilla remains. Would I recommend it? No, for the price there are better options if you’re looking for oud or something between fresh and warm. It’s not a killer oud fragrance. It’s not suitable for cold weather; better for spring or autumn. Poor projection, about half an hour, then skin scent only, and bad longevity; I didn’t even make it to six hours at 25 degrees.
I loved wearing it during the day at 27 degrees ☀️. It’s a delight and lasted forever. A masterpiece that evolves from the start and lasted 12 hours. You can tell the ingredients are high quality: it goes from citrus with oud to something animal and sweet, finishing with spectacular leather and amber. I recommend it to men and women who love oud. 10/10.
If the opening smells like horse manure to you, the good stuff is coming. But it lasts so long that I can’t wait to use it again, lol.
Exquisite summer oud 🤤. I’m not a fan of Rosendo Mateu, but they really outdid themselves here. I imagine many of the negative reviews are from people who bought it blind and just don’t like real oud, not the woody kind. If you can’t handle oriental oud, stay away (though there are stronger ones out there); if you do like it, you need this gem.
As Memoquique says, the low notes are only for users of commercial, robotic perfumes with ugly packaging and copied formulas. This one has a citrus opening and a natural oud that gives it body, evolving into something powdery without losing its summery energy. I don’t understand why people call it stinky; maybe I’m immune or I’ve smelled more animalic openings before. For lovers of oud in summer, it’s a gem. If you like The Lab’s Black Neroli, Rasasi’s Oudh Al Boruzz, or Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Oud, don’t miss this.
