Descripción

Elephant by Zoologist Perfumes is a woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2017, this composition was created by perfumer Chris Bartlett. The top notes reveal green leaves, Darjeeling tea, and magnolia. The heart unfolds with coconut milk, woody notes, cocoa pod, jasmine, and incense. Finally, the base notes settle with sandalwood, musk, patchouli, and amber.

  • Green leaves, tea, and magnolia at the top. Elephant’s opening is indeed totally green and ‘fresh’ with a floral undertone. The green nuances remind me of crushed tree leaves and wet grass. Soon, a creamy, juicy coconut joins the sandalwood, creating a milky sensation that isn’t cloying at all. The greens don’t disappear as the florals fade in intensity. Upon drying, an unexpected bitter cocoa emerges alongside the coconut and greens. This cocoa is subtle yet evident on my skin and very pleasant—not overly bitter or sweet, it blends beautifully. Performance is spectacular; I can still smell it hours later. Totally unisex, wearable in any climate, especially temperate ones. I absolutely loved it. An incredibly original perfume with a surprising evolution; that final cocoa note caught me off guard. Good performance, but the downside is the high price.

Wow, spectacular opening. It’s literally an environment with elephants munching on green branches, leaves, and little flowers. Very green and with radioactive potency, to the point where you can taste crushed herbs in your mouth. That opening lasts, ugh, about 40 minutes. Then, gradually, more flirtatious notes emerge—more ‘perfume-like’ and less like fodder for cows or elephants; let’s not lose the romance. The dry down is rich, slightly creamy like cocoa powder and coconut, almost like coconut-shredded chocolates. Very important: try it before buying. As I said, that 40-minute opening is definitely not a perfume scent.

Very green with radioactive potency; you can even taste crushed herbs on your lips. That opening lasts, ugh, about 40 minutes. Then, gradually, coquettish notes emerge—more ‘perfume-like’ and less like forage for cows or elephants; let’s not lose the romance. • Literally lives up to its name: smells like a rainy Indian forest where a herd of elephants has trampled the plants. The opening is intense, with herbs and stagnant water, sometimes bordering on unpleasant. After two hours it softens into a creamy dark green thanks to the coconut and sandalwood. A fragrance not everyone will like, but it invites you to imagine yourself in the tropical habitat of these animals. Scent: 6.8, Originality: 8.7, Versatility: 6, Quality: 8.3, Sillage: 9, Longevity: 8.8, Bottle: 8.6. Total: 7.1. Notes: crushed herbs. Feeling: swamp and elephants.

  • Elephant’s opening is overwhelmingly green: it smells like sticky banana leaves, almost like Halloween. But that green fades into the background, giving way to other nuances: roasted bitter cocoa, fleshy and waxy magnolia, sweet incense, and dry and damp woods. Once it dries down in summer (about 2 hours), the incense takes over—not the church variety, but one sweetened with cocoa and coconut milk, evoking burnt wood. It’s a pity it disappears after 4 hours, no matter how much you spray on your arm. It’s beautiful and evocative, though the banana note doesn’t convince me, so I wouldn’t rank it in my top 5. It brings Asian jungles to mind, looks unisex, and is perfect for summer nights. It’s potent and requires character. I love it; it’s super original. But the longevity holds me back from buying it. Pleasant: 8/10, Interesting: 10/10, Versatile: 8/10, Original: 10/10.

  • Elephant’s opening is dead green: it smells like sticky banana leaves, almost Halloween-esque. Total surprise. It smells like being outdoors in the heat, crushed green leaves between your hands, and pieces of wood. It has those soft milky notes with a very real, natural cocoa powder. It’s an incredible sensory experience.

  • Rich beast. At first, I had the same issue with the decants of Panda and Tiger; I wanted to be sure before spending on Zoologist. Elephant was incredible longevity-wise but the scent pushed me to the limit, so I went with Panda as it was more wearable. Weeks passed, and while working, I sprayed the sample on a drying rack, and that’s when it truly won me over. I left it about 40 cm away, and suddenly everything clicked: at first, it smells like trampled grass, like crushing plants in your hand, then comes the creamy coconut or sandalwood with a bitter cocoa note. I lost track of time, and when I returned, my whole room smelled like it. At a family dinner, the first question was ‘Why does it smell so much like Raid?’ (that insecticide we have here), and I laughed at the craziness. Now I have the bottle, and it’s my favorite from the brand.
