Without a doubt, Zoologist’s fragrance packaging is beautiful and has high collectible value; just for that alone, regarding presentation, it already deserves a 10/10. As for the scent, Victor Wong has been leaving us cold for a while now—not because of the perfume in question, but due to the lack of grace and depth in their recent releases. The opening is cold, and you definitely feel that icy characteristic for the first five minutes… then things change, and unfortunately, not for the better. The perfume smells good, but it turns into a sort of modern/fresh fougere with little personality, zero distinction, and weak performance, featuring a sillage that stays right on the skin and just average longevity. For fans of the brand, it’s a must-have, mainly because of its packaging, but for those seeking the representation of arctic cold in a bottle, this Penguin will leave them chilled… but out of boredom. Nice scent, but nothing remarkable compared to previous ones like Sacred Scarab, Cardinal, or Bat, which are becoming almost legendary within Zoologist’s mythology.

  • I’ll keep it brief: the first time I tried it, it reminded me a bit of Bvlgari’s Rain Essence, but over the days I kept thinking to myself, ‘hey, wait a minute, haven’t I smelled this before?’ It’s a fragrance that truly represents me, both in the imagery it inspires and its scent. It’s very potent yet not intrusive; it’s comfortable to wear and won’t bother those around you—in fact, people will ask what you’re wearing because you smell so good. It has a fascinating evolution that personally evokes for me a street in Monaco on a cloudy, cold afternoon after a light rain: a very clean and fresh scent, but not the typical freshness you’re used to. This is a more realistic, soft, and sophisticated freshness, executed very well, with high-quality ingredients that are noticeable, though there are occasional moments where it feels a bit sweet. Scent: 9/10, Longevity: 10/10, Sillage: 9/10. If you can afford it and decide to buy it blind, without a doubt, do it.

21/03/24: I tried Penguin again and I can talk about performance. The scent is notable, but the performance isn’t. I wore it on skin and clothes, and for the price, it falls short. If, like me, buying perfumes in this range or higher is a struggle, I’d think twice if it’s worth it. It’s a shame because even though I’m not much of an aquatic fragrance fan, this is the only one that caught my attention to spend money on. But with this performance, no. Projection for the first two hours is great, but starting from the third hour, it fades quickly until it’s barely on the skin. On clothes, it lasts a bit longer, but not much. By 6 or 7 hours, the trail is virtually gone. What a pity.

  • I heard this smells like a suede jacket with tobacco. I went to try it and the image stuck with me. It’s true, it smells different, but I wouldn’t buy it. It’s a typical experience from this brand, nothing more, not a fragrance to enjoy or one that defines your style.

  • I read somewhere that it smells like a suede jacket with a cigar. I went to try it and the idea stuck with me. Literally. I wouldn’t buy it; it is different, but it’s a typical experience from this house, nothing like a perfume to enjoy or a signature scent.

Brutal fragrance, the crown jewel of my collection. Smells like intense cold, not just fresh—super delicious. The only downside is the bottle size is tiny and it’s hard to find. Picture stepping out at night in freezing weather with a subtle sweet touch, like icy water with ice cubes. Rating: 10/10, my absolute favorite.

Spectacular perfume, the best in my collection. Cold aroma, not fresh, super delicious. The only downside is the bottle comes with little product and it’s hard to find. Smells like stepping out at night in freezing cold with a very subtle sweet note. Comparison: very cold water with ice. Rating: 10/10, my favorite perfume.
