I stumbled upon this by accident at a neighborhood perfume shop that was closing down and having a clearance sale 😔. It made me happy from day one; sometimes I just grab it to smell the atomizer. It starts with a fresh, contained burst, then transforms into a symphony of creamy, musky florals with a hidden woody touch. Gardenia is one of my favorite notes; that discreet, chic elegance captivated me. I think you might not find it anymore—the brand may have discontinued it. Stop by small perfume shops and look closely at the shelves; you can find hidden gems that the staff sometimes doesn’t even know they’re carrying.
This perfume draws an aroma in a spiral. It begins with sparkling, beautiful, youthful blackcurrant and bergamot that remind me a lot of the aura of Cacharel’s Promesse. Soon after, the magic begins; different layers of scent settle in, and suddenly a sophisticated, more woody, dry thread emerges that drives me crazy. The blackcurrant appears and disappears throughout the day over a base… simply gorgeous osmanthus and patchouli that create the illusion of wood. It’s such a fine, sensitive scent that I perceive it differently depending on the area of skin; it’s never flat or one-dimensional. Balmain perfumes are sorely missed… It’s the little sister of Balmain’s Ivoire, the girl dreaming of becoming the impeccable, essentially elegant woman that Ivoire is.
I haven’t felt a fragrance evoke so much emotion in a long time. Someone gifted me a sample, and I tested it without much enthusiasm, but applying it to my skin awakened a sense of joy and happiness. It opens with an explosion of red blackcurrants like a breath of energy, vibrant with a touch of bergamot, then the exquisite magnolias bloom, bless them, before giving way to patchouli… It never loses its vitality or magic; it softens over time but stays close to the skin. I notice it, and it makes me smile.
