Worn it for several days and the orange blossom really stands out: it’s green-leaning, more petigrain than neroli. That’s why the ylang-ylang also smells fresh here. The sandalwood sweetens it with a classic candied effect, while the patchouli adds earthiness to check the sweetness. The only standout is that ylang-ylang, which brings richness and soft, powdery green floral notes. At first, it smells a bit like soap, but in warm weather it’s luxurious; in cold, not so much.

I tried this at the freeshop in Lima and the moment I applied it, I was reminded of the scent of fennel being chopped for a salad. As it dried, it recalled Chanel 19 EDP, but this Private stays fresh and crisp, whereas Chanel turns sweet and creamy. The base has a gorgeous aquatic note that hooked me immediately. I went home, headed back to the freeshop, and bought the 50ml. Four or five sprays on the neck are a bit much for me, but the performance is excellent. According to Fragrantica, the top has honeysuckle, jasmine, and citrus; the heart features orange, ylang-ylang, and coriander; and the base is sandalwood and patchouli. I understand the synergy between the sweet sandalwood and the rounded, creamy green florals—creamy, green, and radiant. They say it’s a floral green chypre, and they’re right. In the end, the patchouli gains depth; I thought I smelled leather, but it’s just a woody note, barely earthy, with no soapy or medicinal vibe.
