  • Floral, feminine, and pleasant, but it has poor longevity and lacks originality. The honeysuckle dominates everything, and the woody notes are barely noticeable.

A sophisticated, vibrant fragrance that radiates effortless elegance with that urban Italian style. Imagine a stroll through Rome’s chicest spots: Villa Borghese, Trevi, Parioli, the Colosseum, Via Condotti, or Piazza Navona. It’s a floral explosion in this 1993 Gucci Eau de Parfum. Hard to describe: flowers all the way down to a base of moss and amber. Hyacinth leads the opening, followed by lilac, honeysuckle, ylang, valley lily, jasmine, neroli, and rose. Unique notes like galbanum appear at the start and in the base. Some passages between the top and heart are beautiful—a continuous parade of flowers over a sweet background that expands. It’s less oriental than the original Fendi but rich olfactorily. It’s neither millennial nor old school; it risks both sides. Maybe it lacks a decisive touch of opulence. In the 90s it was marketed as fresh, but today the note pyramid shows how much the concept of fresh has changed. Gucci at its absolute peak.

  • Gucci Eau de Parfum relaunched in 1993, right when the Italian house changed hands to an Emirati financial group. Tom Ford was designing in the shadows before becoming a fashion giant the following year. The bottle is pure Italian luxury and sophistication; in fact, it was reused for Memoire d’une odeur in 2019. The scent is exquisite: creamy hyacinth with galbanum and ylang-ylang with mandarin nectar that makes you sigh. White flowers take the lead, but the best part is the base: a brutally exquisite moss with resins like myrrh and benzoin, plus the warmth of amber mixed with woods. It reminds me of Anais Anais, Alfred Sung, and a bit of Fleur de Orlane, without being identical. It’s not sharp or loud; it tries to showcase the opulence of its base from the start and amplify it over time. It’s rich and showy, yet prefers a moderate sillage that clings to the skin without overwhelming. Don’t expect beastly projection, but expect top-tier quality. That fine elegance that was easy to wear, which Gucci had in the early 90s. I haven’t tried the 80s version; if I find it, I’ll update. I really enjoy this Gucci Eau de Parfum.
