Dzing! is a rare and challenging assembly where animal and gourmand notes create a controlled, prudent fetidness that wants to make a statement, even if it’s not potent or long-lasting. I’ve read that Olivia Giacobetti was inspired by circus scents: cotton candy, caramel apples, and animal bodily fluids. It’s a perfume that tells stories and makes your brain work. Even though it’s not to my taste, there’s a lot of creativity. My conclusion after wearing it: it smells like someone with noticeable body odor who hasn’t showered in 3 days, using a sweet fragrance to mask their adipous effluvium with little success. This persists for about half an hour until the sweetness closes the loop. It’s a measured approach to mixing nauseating and pleasant scents for a conceptual purpose. Being from 1999, it seems like a first step to open the field for this trend. Low performance, poor projection, and short longevity. It goes from an intimidating opening to a delicate, discreet dry-down.

It’s unisex-leaning-male, linear, and modest in performance. Good quality, medium versatility. Although the box doesn’t explicitly say ‘gourmand,’ it does have a caramelized popcorn accord (circus theme). I’d classify it as an oriental with a paternal surname ‘gourmand’ and maternal surname ‘animal.’ The dirty musk contrasts with the sweetness of the popcorn, an exotic combo similar to Kemi by Kemi. It’s less animal, less sweet, and less challenging than Kemi, though they share a similar construction. It’s tough for beginners because it demands you like dirty musk; don’t buy it blindly. One of my favorites, but it takes time to hook you. It starts smelling like a leather jacket, and after 20 minutes, it blends into a deliciously addictive vanilla. It reminds me of the dry-down of Tom Ford Oud Wood, but instead of oud, it’s leather. Both end with similar sweetness and sensation, so I take my hat off to this creation.
