Descripción

Dunhill Fresh by Alfred Dunhill is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2005, the nose behind this composition is Maurice Roucel. The top notes reveal a vibrant freshness with mint, basil, lavender, freesia, and sage; the heart unfolds violet, iris, mimosa, and freesia; while the base notes settle on vetiver, cedar, oakmoss, patchouli, amber, and coumarin.

I saw the perfume and bought a tester to find something interesting for a friend. I loved it instantly! It’s fresh but not cold or citrusy… its freshness comes from the mint (not menthol) and basil in the opening, which then fade to give way to exquisite woods, florals, and moss… later to its delicious amber and coumarin. Ideal for warm climates. Soft, elegant, serene… deliciously masculine. It’s a joy to smell. The sillage is very discreet (at least on my skin; it was more noticeable on paper), it’s a fragrance for the wearer’s enjoyment and those who get close enough 🙂 I’m wearing it right now and can’t stop smelling my wrists 😀 On Fragrantica, there are many reviews saying it’s an improved and cheaper version of Dior’s Fahrenheit Summer (and other Fahrenheit scents). I can’t confirm or deny it because I don’t know that Dior, but since I have another Dior in my collection (Homme 2005), I recommend this Dunhill Fresh to those who like it but are bothered by too much iris or a ‘makeup’ scent in other perfumes: here there’s less iris, no leather, and it’s woody. It also reminded me of the exquisite woody freshness of Dsquared2’s He Wood. I bought it without hesitation because I really liked it… originally thinking of gifting it to my brother. But now that I’ve smelled it better, I want to gift it to my best friend too 🙂 , or even buy one for myself (although I prefer it on a man, I’d love to smell it whenever I want, hehe). And if he decides, maybe another for the friend I tested it on at the start 😉

  • From 2005… could easily be from the 70s or 80s. Absolutely green and refreshing aroma. A classic. It stands out (contrasting with trendy scents) but isn’t overpowering. To my nose, it recreates the scent of ‘fiuncho,’ the Galician word for fennel. It’s the sensation of smelling the living, fresh plant. Aniseed tones, even though it’s not listed on the card, is a personal impression. Excellent choice for its totally counter-trend proposal, price, and versatility.

  • Since 2005 and still sounds like the 70s or 80s. Green and refreshing aroma, a classic that stands out without saturating. To my nose, it smells like ‘fiuncho,’ fennel in Galician; it’s like smelling the living, fresh plant. It has an aniseed touch, even though it’s not on the card, it’s a personal sensation. Top choice for going against the trend, its price, and its versatility.

  • Dunhill Fresh (2005): super fresh fragrance, even fresher than Fahrenheit where the violet is more evident. My nose leans more toward Le Mâle by JPG; I’m not sure if it’s the coumarin effect, but it’s just fleeting moments. A very light fragrance, perfect for hot climates.

  • One of my best buys: very masculine, fresh, and clean with floral, moss, and freesia notes. It reminds me of a gin shot with cucumber peel from a salad—super refreshing. Woody floral notes and cleanliness from the iris. The longevity and sillage are phenomenal, like an EDP. Next to Prada Cedre Iris, I notice the iris is very present here; Dunhill adds the captivating allure of freesia, iris, and cucumber peel. I love it. Smells great and lasts forever, perfect for hot days or evenings.

  • One of my best buys: very masculine, fresh, clean, floral with moss and freesia. Reminds me of cucumber peel from a salad, like when you add pieces to a gin shot. It’s a refreshing cocktail of floral, woody, and clean notes from the iris. Longevity and sillage are beastly, like an EDP. Comparing it to Prada Cedre Iris; here the iris is present, but Dunhill adds the appeal of freesia, iris, and cucumber peel. I love it. Smells great and lasts a long time, ideal for hot days or evenings.
