  • From the 90s until the launch of the most irrelevant scents, like in the case of a house like Trussardi that has been wavering since its birth, it was at least interesting. Donna was one of those perfumes where just seeing the color of the liquid made you realize it wasn’t an ozonic or youthful fragrance. It had a masculine, dirty, floral, powdery, crisp, and very sexual opening, like a version of the 80s chypre formulas aimed at a more modern woman but without losing that slightly ‘dirty’ touch that made you think undeniably of sheer stockings thrown on the floor, a garter belt, an ashtray overflowing with butts, and a bed with wrinkled satin sheets. Every decade boasts those emblematic perfumes that pave the way and mark the rest of imitators; today we’ve been handed the fruitchoulis. In the 80s and 90s, this was exactly the perfume that defined their years, alcoholic and intoxicating formulas with nuclear power and deliberately sexual vibes. If you’re a fan of this type of perfume, even a mediocrity like Donna seems like a treasure surrounded by what they sell today as perfumes.

  • It was a gift in the 90s, and I was too young back then for such an aroma: resounding, complex, dense, and nocturnal. A little went a long way; it left its trail on clothes even after washing. Unforgettable, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

1994? Without seeing the birth date, I’d swear Trussardi launched Donna before the mid-90s. To my nose, it smells more like the 80s—think the power shoulders of Magie Noire, Coco, Paloma Picasso, and Fendi Donna. It sits a couple of rungs below those legends, but it’s infinitely superior to what we’re used to today. For anyone who’s never smelled it, it’s a beautiful revelation. It’s one of those underappreciated gems, the scent of a great lady who knows how to play her seduction cards perfectly: very sexy, very sensual, with a late-blooming character. It’s strictly feminine (but we don’t put limits on providence), radiating voluptuous, decisive, and luminous elegance. It’s captivating, yet always stays one step ahead of the brazen sensuality of certain floral chypres from that era. Well sexy and quite luxurious, where charm and elegance coexist in perfect balance. Donna wants to seduce and elevate its wearer to a level where resistance is difficult, positioning itself as a notable instrument of capture and self-affirmation. The fragrance is noble and mature, a highly expressive aldehydic floral chypre of Italian glamour. Fresh at first, spiced later, with a warm base of labdanum and patchouli. Many flowers ensure a multidimensional density in a field of tension embracing green, sweet, acidic, tart, spicy, oriental, and woody notes. The top and heart are radiant; if it were a musical composition, it would be a cheerful andante. It opens with a great harmony between aldehydes and citrus before giving way to a softened floral heart, smoothed by labdanum, of great beauty and variety, featuring rose, jasmine, lily, and a lovely slightly boozy vibe. Even the base leaves a pleasant sensation of well-perfumed cream. This Eau de Toilette never veers into gourmand territory, as it rarely did back then, unlike today. The tone always remains high and bright. Despite a slight touch of the past, Trussardi Donna is a perfume that’s wrongly not very popular and deserves to become a classic. It has temper; anyone who has loved it or simply tried it obviously can’t forget it.
