Have you worn De Los Santos?

Tell us how it opens, how it settles on your skin, how long it lasts and when you wear it.

  1. I have an extra board from an IKEA piece of furniture, okay? I didn’t want to throw away the solid wood, so I left it on top of the washing machine on the terrace in the sun. Every now and then I’d wipe it with a damp cloth, and wow, that unmistakable scent of wet wood (like the boards at the beach bar when people who just showered stepped on them) is De los Santos. At first, it’s beautiful, a realistic impression of water falling on beach planks. And then… it shifts to that wet wood of a summer storm dragging something dirty along. In fact, it’s the pure scent of the rim of a michelada. There’s a third phase, tested on blotter paper (not on skin, where it develops crystal clear and luxurious), which is the scent of a car that’s not very new, nor old, after being parked in the sun on the coast in September following a vacation. You open the car and there’s that mix of overheated upholstery, rain remnants, calima, and the dusty residue of a worn-out air freshener. It’s strange, but exactly as it is. De los Santos is original and passes through unsettling moments. As an olfactory rollercoaster, it’s a wonder. I haven’t seen perfumes like it.

  2. De los Santos is a perfume without artifice, simple, and proof that less is more. Everything revolves around intelligent decisions with the materials, showing it’s well-made by the perfumer. It’s one of the scents with the most prominent Palo Santo note, very well-rounded. It has sweet and slightly green nuances. Accompanied by simple woody accords, mainly Ambroxan and Iso E Super with a touch of vanilla, it creates a woody and slightly sweet fragrance that’s easy but very enjoyable to wear. To balance the green of the Palo Santo, the perfumer adds clary sage, with a fresh character and spicy nuances. This sage, very present at the start, gives it some formality and its own character. Simple but chic, it doesn’t need to mix a multitude of notes to seek something complicated. It’s a good scent that denotes quality, perfect for everyday wear though it has presence for special occasions. Cheers.

  3. I’m from the era when we played outside, and even luckier because I lived near the countryside. Right where the road met the grass, there was a poorly sealed pipe outlet that slowly leaked water. We’d all go there to drink when it was hot; the ground was always green and blooming around the puddle. I forgot that scent until I found Byredo’s De los Santos: it smells identical to that corner of my childhood. It’s a miracle to me; I bless it every time I wear it. It smells green, lush, like damp nature, and solitude. It’s not sophisticated, but it feels very close, or that’s what it conveys to me.

Totally green and spicy, a delight for me, but if you’re the ‘old beautiful’ type, forget it, lol, this isn’t for you. It’s very unisex, not very feminine, but I wear it even as a man without any issues. It’s enjoyed personally; when I sweat, the spice aroma blooms. It’s not a beast, so don’t expect a minimum 6-hour longevity; if you want an idea, buy Sam Edelman Signature 😄. Another fact: my mom said it smelled like medicine.
