Caught me off guard; I didn’t expect it to be this well-executed for the price: a true black swan. It’s that dark rose-oud combo with lots of incense—beautiful and unpretentious, but beware: if you don’t love this style, don’t even get close. It hangs out in the same league as much pricier perfumes like Armani Prive Royal Oud or By Kilian Incense Oud, though without as many nuanced facets. Basically, it smells like dark, woody rose paired with a tamed oud—nothing medicinal or animalistic, just a deep wood that fits red rose perfectly. The incense adds depth and a lovely smoky vibe. Ideal for dipping your toes into the world of oud: very wearable, no scatological tones, and well-made, so it will appeal to many Western noses. Lasts 8 to 9 hours on skin with moderate sillage; potent at first but settles into a more intimate aura later. A dark scent best for cool or mild climates, maybe not for heat, though a crisp summer evening would suit it well. Elegant and refined, not for daily wear but for special occasions. If you love a fine, elegant rose-oud combo, this is your perfect candidate.
Total surprise! I didn’t expect it to be this accomplished for the price; it’s a real black swan. It’s a dark rose-oud combo with heavy incense, very pretty and nothing too strident, but if you don’t dig this style, don’t even bother. It stands up to much more expensive perfumes like Armani Prive Royal Oud or By Kilian Incense Oud, though it lacks their multiple facets. For the cost, it’s a gorgeous perfume without needing a complex note structure. Basically, it smells like very woody dark rose with a tamed oud—nothing medicinal or animal, a deep wood that suits red rose perfectly. The incense is always there, giving it depth and a beautiful smoky air. Perfect for starting your oud journey: very wearable, no scatological tones, and well-made, so it will please many Western noses. Lasts 8 to 9 hours on skin with moderate sillage; strong at first but then fades to a personal aura. A dark scent for cool and mild climates; heat isn’t its ideal, though a crisp summer night would work. With its elegant and refined aroma, it’s not for daily wear but for formal occasions. If you like a fine, elegant rose-oud combo, here is your perfect candidate.
It’s exquisite. Wood with lots of incense and a very subtle rose. A scent for autumn and winter. Excellent projection; I sprayed another perfume over it and I still smell the one on my wrist. I put it on 6 hours ago and it still projects to half a meter. Definitely recommend it.
It’s exquisite. A wood scent with lots of incense and a very subtle rose. A fragrance for autumn and winter. Excellent performance: I applied it to one wrist, then put on another perfume, and I could still smell the first one over the top. I applied it 6 hours ago and it still projects to a meter. Definitely buying it.
An interesting oud, very incense-heavy. It reminds me of that Sroma when you enter Indian shops, that vibe of classic Nag Champa incense. A perfume for autumn and winter, an original aroma never seen before. If you love incense, Indian mysticism, and palo santo, this will be your battle scent. Summary: a man inspired by refined Nag Champa with a soft touch of cinnamon. Longevity 10 hours.
I bought it blindly… the rose is strong at first but manageable, then it moves to a pleasant incense. I really like fragrances with incense. The oud feels very light. I’m not regretting the blind buy. I only have one issue: the glass bottle with the leaf. My bottle just says ‘Mauboussin Cristal Oud,’ what’s the difference? Greetings.
Rose, Incense, and Oud. ‘It smells classy,’ they told me when I tried it. At first, the rose takes the lead, then a delicious incense, and finally an elegant oud without losing the rose. Not for blind buys, but it deserves a try.
At first, incense, rose, and a touch of tobacco explode. As it dries, the depth of the oud with raw incense and a dried rose emerges, like making incense with red rose petals. It becomes woody, oriental, and warm, not sweet. It’s linear but exquisite and unisex. The ugly packaging is compensated by its longevity (8 hours) and projection (40cm). If you like incense and don’t hate rose, you’ll love it.
At first, it explodes with incense, rose, and a touch of tobacco. As it dries down, you feel the depth of the oud with raw incense and a rather dry rose, like making incense with dried petals of a very red rose. It stays woody, oriental, and warm, but not sweet. Linear but exquisite, absolutely unisex; the ugly packaging is made up for by its beautiful longevity (around 8 hours) and projection (felt at 40 cm). If you like incense scents and don’t hate rose, you will definitely love this perfume.
BEWARE! Addiction hazard. At the first spray, you smell rose and incense with a medicinal oud but nothing bad. After three sprays, it leaves skin and clothes soaked for two days. Elegant with just three notes; the rose is synthetic but it’s a winner. Not for blind buys, but for addicts, it’s a gem at a good price that will make people look at you as you pass.
WARNING! Danger of addiction with this perfume: as soon as it comes out of the first spray, you smell rose, incense, and a slightly medicinal oud, but with no downsides. Three sprays leave my skin and clothes soaked for two days. Elegant with just three declared notes; it often feels like a slightly synthetic rose but absolutely crushes it all. Not for blind buys, but addicts of this world consider it a gem to discover, noting that at an excellent price, it will turn more than one head as you pass by.
Incense ruins the scent for me. My nose can’t take it, which is a shame because it has quality and punch for its price. The rose is feminine and powdery. I regret buying it blindly.
It’s a unisex with a feminine and oriental touch, a blend of incense-rose oud and sweetness, very powdery. To me, it sounds like an YSL M7 mixed with a classic Guerlain floral like Gres or Patou. The oud here is synthetic and soft, nothing like Dyango. It smells of maturity and elegance, ideal for fresh weather; in the heat, it will make you dizzy. You can tell Mauboussin has quality and style without being pretentious for the price. In my opinion, it’s better than Franck Olivier Oud Touch (which smells fake and cheap) and the Black Aoud by Montale (which is heavy and boring). Although marketed as masculine, I think women over 30 will like it more. Longevity and projection are excellent, 7 hours without issues. Great value for money.
Unisex fragrance, slightly feminine and oriental, featuring a rose-oud incense combo that is sweet and powdery. To me, it feels like an impossible mix of YSL M7 with a classic women’s floral like Guerlain Gres or Patou. The oud is synthetic and softer than the Dyango discography. It smells of maturity, elegance, and sophistication. Because it’s a powdery floral, I see it as ideal for cool weather; in the heat, it will overwhelm you. You can tell Mauboussin fragrances have quality and a real effort to have style without being pretentious for their economic price. In my opinion, it’s better than Franck Olivier Oud Touch (which I find has a fake, cheap oud) and also better than Montale’s Black Aoud (which I find super heavy, boring, and synthetic). This is something else. Due to its prominent powdery rose-oud note, even though it’s marketed as masculine, in my opinion, it will appeal more to mature women over 30 than to men. Performance and longevity are great: it easily lasts 7 hours, and the first two hours project to about a meter. For quality-to-price ratio, Mauboussin is excellent.
Although smell is subjective, I don’t understand who likes this invention. It smells like unbearable plastic and synthetic material. I’ve never heard anything so terrifying and foul that I thought it had factory defects, though I’m not sure if that happens in the industry. I literally threw it in the trash.
Alvaro1976 is basically an oud you don’t expect, with a medicinal touch and a hint of excrement, but no factory defects; it just is. There are worse and much more expensive perfumes. The opening is tricky, but it dries down beautifully.
