Classic in the Andy Tauer style… or not. You expect something brilliant from this perfumer, but wearing it feels generic. Opens with citrus and orange, then ladanum and woods emerge. It’s well-composed with quality ingredients and care. But will it make history? No. There are other options in its genre. The price (€2.2/ml) doesn’t help either: with 4 sprays, the longevity is mediocre. We’ll update after testing it in the real world.
I don’t have data to compare the 2011 version with the 2021 one, as I’m waiting to try the latter, but I want to address your point about the first, which I’ve tested several times thanks to a friend. Cologne du Maghreb 2011 was a super simple scent where a luminous, full-bodied lemon dominated everything else, which wasn’t much to begin with. The scent was simpler than its composition. Longevity was about 30 minutes; the first time I wore it, I didn’t believe it, but the next two tests confirmed it. The price was lower, I think around 85-90€ for 50 ml. With this, my expectation for the 2021 edition is that it smells the same or similar, but with a longer-lasting formula. The three hours you mention still seem short to me, but a notable improvement over the beginning. In the end, whether it’s worth it is a personal decision, but I believe it’s one of the few cases where the first version doesn’t deserve so much idealization; at least, its performance was real.
The first spray definitely reminds you of classic colognes, which is why it bears that name. The nice part is that as it dries, it takes a different path thanks to the vetiver, setting it apart from the Acqua di Parma DNA and giving it its own identity. The only flaw is the longevity, which doesn’t justify the price. For me, it’s like mixing the DNA of Eau Sauvage with AdP Essenza, and it works wonders. Recommended only if you don’t already own the previous ones.
At first spray, it smells like a classic cologne, hence the name. The nice part is that as it dries, the vetiver takes it in a different direction, distancing it from the Acqua di Parma DNA and giving it its own identity. The only flaw: longevity doesn’t justify the price. It’s like mixing the DNA of Eau Sauvage with ADP Essenza, and it works great. Recommended only if you don’t already own the previous ones.
What a gorgeous Tauer cologne! It follows the vibe of my favorite citrus, Nio by Xerjoff, but it can’t compare in longevity since it’s a cologne. It arrived with four other Tauer scents when I bought directly from the boutique. Even though I love the scent, I won’t buy it due to the poor longevity. I’ll keep testing on skin the one that really caught my interest: Sundowner, a dark fragrance with my favorite note, tobacco.
What a great cologne from Tauer! It fits the vibe of my favorite citrus scent, Xerjoff Nio, but it can’t compare in longevity since it’s a cologne. It arrived with four other scents from the brand when I bought directly at the boutique. Although the smell is a ten, I won’t be buying it again due to the poor longevity. Now I’m testing Sundowner on my skin, the one I’m actually interested in: a dark fragrance featuring one of my favorite notes, tobacco.
Classic, with echoes of Acqua di Parma, Farina, or Álvarez Gómez, but with Tauer’s signature: an amber base that adds distinction. Very citrusy, dominated by lemon and tangerine, with herbal and floral notes where neroli shines. Performance is weak; you have to overapply or spray on clothes to reach 4 hours. It has class and elegance, but the price for 50ml is excessive. There are similar colognes at a better price and longevity. I love Tauer’s perfumery, bought it blind at launch, but I don’t recommend it. If you’re a fan, go ahead, but there are better value-for-money options.
Classic in the purest style, reminiscent of Acqua di Parma or Álvarez Gómez but with Tauer’s signature touch: an amber base that adds distinction. Very citrusy, at first glance lemon and tangerine, with lots of herbal notes and a floral vibe where neroli takes the lead. The longevity is weak; you have to apply it generously and on clothes to reach 4 hours. It has class and quality, but I think the price for these 50 ml is excessive; there are similar options that last longer and cost less. I love Tauer perfumery, which is why I bought it blind right out of the store, and while I’m not regretting it, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you fall in love with it, go for it, but there are better value-for-money options.
