  Boss Spirit is the soul of the German house’s 90s launches. If Number One was a heavy bomber, Spirit is a lightweight, fast, versatile jet built for air supremacy. Hugo Boss made me suffer with their sense of possession, reminding me that suffering springs from desire, so to relieve it, I stopped looking for cat hair in the barn after years of trying. Time forgives nothing; it takes away loved ones and ways of expressing beauty, giving way to the ‘new’. Thus, that ozonic, bright leather was sacrificed for a ‘better’ future, something I didn’t find convenient, as nothing surpassed Spirit’s presence, style, and depth. Not on a level that justifies losing that boreal leather for a timid minted fern, classic lavender and geranium at unprecedented heights; it’s herbal but with a fine, young leather. It’s elegant, intense, pulsating—the most synthetic adjective to define it. It fits its era, the 90s, alongside Aramis, Escada, Jean Patou, Gucci Nobile, and Loewe; its identity is undeniably masculine, bold, and of exquisite elegance. Longevity is excellent, over 10 hours, with vibrant projection for the first three hours and then a bright, herbal, ozonic trail. It’s a wandering spirit in the minds of those who dream of owning it, of the need to place it on the altar of such a beautiful fragrance, a spirit that became perfume to offer its best and disappear like beings absorbed by light, for its name carried its sentence. Hopefully one day light returns it so many can experience what a round, perfect scent can do, for the good of those seeking the yin-yang midpoint, just as Boss Spirit did. 10/10

  Boss Spirit is the spirit behind the 90s launches from Germany’s most famous fashion house. Compared to the heaviness of Jet Bomber, Spirit feels like a lighter, more versatile, and faster jet dedicated to air supremacy. This perfume tortured me with a sense of possession, reminding me of Buddha’s words about desire as the source of suffering, so after years of searching for a cat’s tail in the barn, I abandoned the idea. Defeated by time, which forgives nothing and takes away loved ones and ways to express beauty to make room for the ‘new,’ that ozonic, bright leather was discarded for a future ‘better’ version I can’t discern as worthwhile, since nothing surpassed the bearing, style, and depth of Spirit. Not to a degree that justifies losing this boreal leather where a shy menthol fern peeks out, with the classic lavender-geranium blend reaching sharp, rarely explored heights; the overall scent is herbal but supported by a fine, young leather. It’s elegant, intense, pulsating—the most synthetic adjective to define it. It fits the 90s vibe, pairing well with Aramis, Escada, Jean Patou, Gucci Nobile, Loewe, and many others; its identity is undeniably masculine, bold, and of exquisite elegance. Longevity is excellent, over 10 hours, with intense and vibrant projection for the first three hours, followed by a long trail of herbal, bright, oriental, and ozonic notes. Boss Spirit is a wandering spirit in the minds of those who hallucinate about owning it, the need to place it on an altar reserved for a fragrance of such beauty—a spirit that became perfume to offer its best and give life to future creations, before disappearing like enlightened beings absorbed by light and leaving the earthly realm, since its name carried its sentence. Hopefully, one day light will return it so many can experience what a well-rounded, perfectly assembled scent can do for the good of those seeking the yin-yang balance, just as Boss Spirit did. 10/10

  My search for fragrances remains an endless journey. Boss Spirit has average longevity, but in my experience, its projection is very good. It’s a classic scent from the late eighties, an unbeatable era for fashion, music, and perfumes. Living through it was a privilege. It smells dry, linear, a bit brittle, dark, and masculine, yet with a perceptible sweet touch. You can really smell the wood, lavender, and a ton of green notes that give it life. I don’t understand why they throw away such peculiar and different scents. This is a high-quality creation by Hugo Boss.

  To this day, I can’t believe they discontinued this fragrance and this HUGE piece of perfume… IT’S INCONCEIVABLE! Unique scent, I haven’t found anything that compares yet… what a shame they cut something so EXCELLENT… Marcus, your comment reflects exactly what I feel about this UNREPEATABLE perfume…

  This was my signature in the 90s. It has a brutal presence and a unique identity that I don’t understand why they discontinued. I have the privilege of having picked up a couple of 100ml bottles on eBay years ago and I keep them like gold. Does anyone know if there’s anything similar? To this day, after so much time, I haven’t seen it again and I don’t want to run out of my special stash…
