  A fougère with citrus and herbs that smells classy. Reminds me of PR Pour Homme, Guy Laroche Horizon, and Jacques Bogart. The blend is beautiful, but it lacks punch: it lasts about 6 hours and the trail is very timid. In that case, I’d go for a Bogart Signature instead, since Basile Uomo costs double and performs the same. It was a good blind buy, but I won’t repurchase due to longevity, unless I can find a good vintage.

  Italian perfumery gives a lot to those who have the time and desire to search. Basile Uomo is a classic old-school scent with great personality, similar to Grigioperla, a fragrance that saves money without sacrificing quality or depth. It seems this aroma seeks strong emotions and then protects them, a simple yet original creation. If you like this style, it’s a safe gift: it opens with galbanum, basil, grapefruit, and orange, with a heart of clove, cinnamon, and rose. It closes with sandalwood, moss, and leather, giving it a potent masculine edge. Basile Uomo is solid, with that eighties charisma and good quality for the price. Proof that both can go well together.

  At first, the herbs dominate strongly: thyme, rosemary, basil, and citron. Among the citrus, grapefruit stands out. In the middle, I notice more spices: nutmeg and clove. The dry down is lovely with oakmoss, soft leather, and sandalwood. The style reminds me of Puig’s Quorum (especially in the heart and dry down), but it’s more herbal than citrus at the start and has less leather. It’s a softer, more polished version of that Quorum. I see it as a good example of an old-school chypre, not sweet enough for young people. The trail can be heavy if you overapply, but generally it’s moderate, noticeable well for the first 4 or 5 hours, then it sticks to the skin, lasting over 10 hours on me. Despite the spices, I don’t find it warm enough for winter or fresh enough for summer, so I see it best for intermediate seasons. It’s formal and for daytime wear.
