Descripción

Aqua Vitae by Maison Francis Kurkdjian is an aromatic citrus fragrance for men and women. This composition, created by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian and launched in 2013, unfolds a fragrance pyramid where top notes of bergamot, lemon, and mandarin give way to a heart of jasmine and water lily, settling on a base of sandalwood, vetiver, and amber.

Another joke from Kurkdjian, who plagiarizes himself over and over. I’ll put my take on Acqua Celestia here to save space, and it seems like another authentic bore/detergent. Honestly, I’m too lazy…

Exquisite dry-down. At first spray, it doesn’t grab attention; it’s a light, ordinary citrus, almost imperceptible, leaning masculine; you think it’ll vanish in an hour or two, but gradually it transforms into a sweet-creamy scent thanks to the vanilla and tonka bean, well-supported by a subtle wood note. Lasts 7 hours on skin and over 12 on clothes. It’s fresh, elegant, and sophisticated. Once dried down, I find it unisex-feminine. Perfect for everyday wear, ideal for going to work in enclosed, formal spaces.

It definitely carries the creator’s stamp. I waited a long time to get the discovery set, and this is one of my favorites. The longevity and trail didn’t impress me; they were moderate, which I didn’t expect from such an expensive perfume. As for the price-to-quality ratio… it’s rich, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I think the discovery set is a good option to see how it sits on your skin, since several were disappointing. None of the collection is worth buying blindly, given the price and the particularity of these perfumes.

  • Good perfume. It’s not super original; it’s the typical marine floral lemon, sweetened with a woody touch, but elevated to sublime quality. I’m surprised by the naturalness and exquisiteness of the notes; it’s not complex or novel, but very enjoyable—I’m fascinated. Moderate trail, leaning heavy, for the first 3 hours. Longevity over 8 hours, very positive for an aroma that usually lacks good performance.

Honestly, for the price, it’s normal. What’s the point of reviewing without considering the cost? Sure, unless it’s irrelevant, but here it matters. It’s citrusy with a creamy base—the only thing that sets it apart—and it lasted almost five hours. The ingredients smell incredible, though that’s the bare minimum I expect from the brand. The lemon and citrus notes are clean and refined, nothing harsh or edible, almost like a real extract. The jasmine and oud just add a fresh aquatic touch, while the wood, vanilla, and tonka are barely noticeable. It’s my first MFK, and it doesn’t make me want to explore the brand further. Fortunately, it was a decant, not a full bottle purchase, and I’ll use it in summer. Will I enjoy it? Yes, but not enough to buy the bottle or get interested in the perfumer. Edit: Early July of the same year, I’m finding it more and more disagreeable. Maybe it oxidized or it’s a defective batch; it smells more musky, like hospital disinfectant with a splash of lemon. Not a pleasant image, but that’s what I smell. I don’t know what to make of this.
