Dr.No
Is this Tyrannosaurus from Zoologist? 🤔🦖 Antonio Gardoni is joining forces with Will Carius, the founder, on a project called ‘Berceuse,’ inspired by a Chopin lullaby. The only release so far is ‘Allegretto 7.2,’ based on the second movement of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. Interesting, right? ➡️ Allegretto 7.2 revolves around smoky vetiver and lavender built on a very familiar base—and no, I’m not crazy. Remember Tyrannosaurus by Zoologist? Gardoni takes that same base and DNA to recreate it in Allegretto 7.2. The result is essentially a Tyrannosaurus that’s less harsh, more smoky, and much more wearable, with vetiver taking center stage. The perfume is great, but in my opinion, it lives in the shadow of Zoologist and lacks originality. I don’t like it when a perfumer releases multiple very similar scents with just minor tweaks. It’s like Marge Simpson’s multi-use suit… 💡 He did the same thing with Cadavre Exquis and Corpse Reviver—they’re extremely (extremely) similar, just with slight variations. I’d love to own Allegretto 7.2, but it feels redundant given how heavily it borrows from Zoologist. Definitely worth trying, but you’ll have to decide which one to buy. This one is undeniably easier to enjoy; ‘T-Rex’ (the short name) is tougher and more challenging. Good quality. What still doesn’t make sense to me is: why is there only one perfume available as of today (March 2021) if the brand was launched over a year ago? Everything is as enigmatic as Gardoni himself…
