  • Another pleasant surprise from the Portuguese house Comporta. It smells of coconut, but not that sweet vanilla-blended kind; rather, it’s like coconut water, transparent, slightly green, and very natural. It’s like inhaling the scent of a coconut cut in half: soft, slightly sweet, with a woody touch. The tiaré and woods stand out, delicious in this composition. The sensation is sitting by the sea on a solitary beach, with more contemplation than fun, alongside palm trees, feeling the scent of coconut, wood, and sea salt. It’s very pleasant, but quite subtle, perhaps too much. It projects little at first and I only notice it when I move, like when a breeze carries a soft, natural, and humid scent in nature. Pity, because it would be perfect with a bit more body.

  • It smells good at first, but it ends up becoming a bit cloying; it’s very sweet and sticky. The coconut scent feels more like Paula’s Ibiza than Virgin Island. The performance isn’t bad, but the issue is that it transports me to a tropical beach at sunset with intense heat and sticky humidity where the fragrance mixes with sunscreen, the grayish landscape, and mosquito repellent. Yes, I get that sensation of mixed repellent and tropical sunscreen with that sticky texture; it must be some mental association of mine. I still prefer Heeley’s Cocobello with its palm leaf and coconut water scent, which inspires a deserted island, sunny noon heat by the sea, or Virgin Island Water. In this regard, Simone Andreoli’s Party in the Bay is a sharper version of Creed with better performance.

  • I fell for this again this summer while searching for something tropical. After trying several, I fell in love with A Olfar Trancoso once more. Although it’s pricier now and didn’t blow my mind the first time, re-examining it in the perfumery revealed something different—perhaps due to aging or my evolving tastes. The scent is much more charming, evocative, natural, and addictive. What surprised me most was the performance: 6 to 7 hours with good bubble projection and no sillage issues. It lasts all day on tough skin if I don’t shower, and it’s still there on clothes the next day. A pleasant surprise, just like with JV Pure Artisan: initially, I thought it was boring with poor performance, but the following summer, with temperatures over 30 degrees, it lasted 5 to 6 hours, projecting amazingly for the first two hours and earning me compliments. All for 35€ in 125 ml. Sometimes, the second act is the best.
