The Different Company was born in 2000 with perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena and designer Thierry de Baschmakoff. Luc Gabriel joined as director and turned the project into one of the first contemporary niche perfume houses. In 2005, Céline Ellena took over from her father in creating new fragrances.
The house maintains a line of perfumes, an Esprit Cologne collection and travel accessories. Its bottles can be dismantled and refilled, and the brand offers small formats to carry. Bois d'Iris belongs to Jean-Claude Ellena's early creations; Sel de Vetiver is part of Céline Ellena's later period.
