Chevignon is a sillage that made me incredibly happy this summer. It’s been a classic in the US since its 1992 launch, where it’s now hard to find and sells for crazy prices. Luckily, it arrived in Spain in early 2010, making it much easier to get. The trick is that no current batch is post-2012, so later restrictions haven’t affected it. And wow, you can tell: the oakmoss hits instantly with lots of pine, patchouli, and a balsamic/mentholated touch. It gradually settles into earthy notes close to leather. It’s a direct heir to the 80s ferns (reminds me of Polo by Ralph Lauren or Open by Roger Gallet), but its 90s version is lighter and fresher; its trail is moderate, pleasant, and discreet (someone said it smells like rosemary), perfect for heat. So simple and well-made that it seems like the ideal everyday perfume or signature scent. It goes great with jeans and a tee without losing an adult vibe. It’s one of the friendliest classic ferns I’ve tried, and its longevity is very good, above average: discreet but persistent. Many comment that it’s very similar to the discontinued Polo Crest, though I haven’t tried it. And a detail: do you know who makes it? Jacques Bogart. So a point extra for this excellent but underrated house.
