Silver Black by Azzaro

It’s the opposite of Pour Homme, my youth perfume which was elegant and pleasant. This one blocks out the best of the regular version; it sounds more mature, less intense, and muted. While it’s aimed at an older profile, I feel it kills the powerful opening of the original. If you’re not looking for something subdued and mature, it’s not worth it. 3/5

Powerful scent with an 80s retro vibe but modernized, perfect for a mature man without falling into the classic fougere or typical ‘grandpa fragrance’ trap. It’s Azzaro Pour Homme, which hardly anyone wears today because it’s so strong and dated. It resembles Azzaro Onyx, also by Françoise Caron, but I prefer this one for its anise, juniper, and musk notes. Good longevity, 6-7 hours on my skin, moderate sillage radiating an aura for an hour. It has a touch of coriander, patchouli, and wood that gives it that ‘sigma male’ vibe: enigmatic, serious, and intensely interesting. It’s dark and nocturnal without being scary, with a classic barbershop touch but more elegant and versatile than traditional shaving scents. So, it’s not Old Spice, Tabac, or Drakkar Noir. It’s quite affordable for what it offers, around 25-35 euros/dollars for 100ml. I see Silver Black as better for cool weather; avoid sunny spring-summer mornings, terraces, or July-August parties over 30°C where it might overwhelm you. A fragrance for an elegant, mature man, 35 and up. Unfortunately, this Silver Black is hard to find nowadays; you can only buy it on specialized websites or perfume outlets with stock from a few years ago. Oh, and forget about attracting compliments or anything; while there are people (men and women) for everything (some are obsessed and say Gucci Guilty Absolute gets them compliments and helps them flirt; I’m baffled), this is purely personal enjoyment and olfactory footprint.

It’s a pleasant perfume with three clear notes: first citrus, then anise, and finally patchouli. It has very little relation to Azzaro Pour Homme, and I prefer the original to this one. However, given the price, longevity, and what it offers, I recommend it if you can grab it for 600 pesos or 30 dollars. The best part: it’s not overexposed.

True, I tested this thoroughly, and it was quite a mystery: it starts fresh and pleasant but lasts a mere breath. Then a super retro, old-school barbershop scent settles in. The coriander dominates (and I’m angry because I can’t stand it), and the juniper barely smells. I did a poll, and nothing about attracting women; out of every two who liked it, five said it smelled old or for older people. In summary: the price is great, longevity and sillage work, but those 80s barbershop touches and that beastly spicy tone make this Azzaro a total discard for my collection. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re 40 or older, as my nose and others, mostly women of different ages, say. Score: Scent: 9 projection/3 dry down. Longevity and sillage: 8. Price: 9. Versatility: 6.

I didn’t like it much. It doesn’t compare to the classic Azzaro at all. This seems very timid, lacking personality, and the longevity and scent aren’t to my liking. Visit is much better, for example.

It works great for me, though my girlfriend doesn’t feel the same (whatever she thinks). I see myself as Nisman with this just before his hat blew off. The sillage is weak, standard, but the fixation is good.

I sprayed a good amount of Silver Black on my wrists along with Midnight in Paris, and what a fresh blend. A total autumn success. I’ve had a bottle of Silver Black for a couple of years that I got cheap in a minis order and never really paid attention to. I tried it before and maybe it didn’t convince me, perhaps due to summer heat. Here in the Canaries, it doesn’t get cold, so I enjoy potent perfumes more when it cools down. I’ve worn it several days and it has an 80s vibe, even though it came out in 2005. The apple and bergamot give it a lift, but its soul is melancholic and dark, maybe due to the patchouli and anise. It has a classic barbershop touch, creamy and soft but intense. It feels like a true men’s fragrance. I like it a lot, and so does everyone else. The fact that it stays away from trends without being loud is a plus, along with the price and longevity. It’s versatile, but better to avoid closed, hot spaces.

I love it. It smells like Cool Water but with more character. Perfect for night. I noticed it lasts longer on clothes than on skin, so if you want it to last, put a bit on your shirt.

They say it’s a magnet for women and that girls get closer to the man wearing it; to me, it smells very seductive and sexy. The opening is a bit powdery and mossy, I think it’s the juniper, then it shifts to an addictive spicy scent, very, very good. It’s addictive and pleasant until you start smelling it over and over again. P.S.: It’s a men’s cologne. Kids, stay away from this.
