Review of the 1920s extract with the original formula. I’d rate it as leather-floral; for me, it’s the Chanel epitome of elegance and sophistication, and the house’s finest creation. The concentration feels rich and creamy, featuring an indolic jasmine and aldehydes in perfect balance—unlike in No. 22 or even No. 5. Intense leather, tobacco, and a subtle rose. Absolutely fabulous. Of course, it’s less airy and bright than the Eau de Toilette and EDP; the current ‘Les Exclusifs’ formulas do justice to the original and have successfully preserved it since its inception. Fortunately, it seems IFRA hasn’t tampered with it here, as the notes don’t appear particularly allergenic (if I’m wrong, I’d appreciate feedback). I see it as totally unisex, especially in this concentration where the leather and tobacco really shine. The flowers stay in the background but don’t disappear, while Ylang-Ylang adds a touch of sweetness and cleanliness to the whole. With this fragrance, I can’t be entirely objective—leather notes are my weakness—but I can say this is truly Chanel’s work of art. A fantastic scent with a unique dimension, 100% Chanel DNA, and an timeless classic that belongs in every collection.
