J Crew’s Arquiste 57 is basically resins and malts with sweet and woody touches, plus a hint of liquor. Think of Nasomatto Baraonda but with the volume turned down and everything smoothed out to make it more wearable, intimate, and mature. I still prefer Baraonda, but this isn’t bad at all. The evolution is linear, leaning into resins and woods, with acceptable longevity and a short sillage. It works well for me; I see it as more masculine, perfect for cold weather and semi-formal, formal, or special occasions. If Baraonda feels too strong or unwearable due to that whiskey note, this is your plan B. Rating: 7/10. Tested on an official tester, 10ml.
