Pure Poison Elixir by Dior

Pure Poison Elixir is one of those perfumes I keep deep in my memory; it’s a shame it’s no longer available. It’s one of those book-perfect floral oriental scents—flawless, celestial, wild, and elegant all at once, very unique. The first thing it gives you is a wave of mandarin juice with crushed, fresh green leaves, followed by those fused flowers that become one entity: jasmine and bergamot, tall, intense, and striking. As they reveal their beauty, cocoa powder, drops of vanilla without hesitation, and bits of amber adhere to them, moderately sweetening this elixir. It’s a more complex and nuanced version than the original; it’s not stronger in projection, but it doesn’t need to be, as its complexity makes up for that power. It has nothing to do with today’s white florals. It’s a pity that creations like this are destined for oblivion; they turn them into shooting stars. It lasts 6-7 hours on skin with moderate to soft sillage, but it accompanies you throughout its entire time. A beautiful perfume; if you see it, don’t let it pass by—it will always make a difference in your collection.

I searched for this perfume for quite some time, and finally, a 30 ml bottle ended up in my hands. What a beauty! The opening is citrusy and sparkling, very cheerful. It dries down to a lovely, non-strident white floral accord, highlighting the orange blossom, with a sweet, powdery base. The curious thing is that this final impression seems to come from a very subtle cocoa powder that surrounds the composition. As it dries, the very Dior-like vanilla takes center stage; if you’re a regular Dior fan, you know what I mean. Although it’s often categorized as versatile, I feel it doesn’t shine in cold temperatures. I like it much more for spring or summer, though I wish it weren’t so subtle and projected a bit more. Its projection could be better, with soft sillage and 9-10 hours of longevity. It’s delicate, romantic, and beautiful for personal enjoyment. If you’re looking for something very present, you’ll be disappointed, but if you appreciate its graceful beauty, it will bring you more than a smile. The pear-shaped atomizer bottle is gorgeous, retro, and romantic—be careful! If you leave the atomizer on, the perfume starts evaporating, and you’ll enjoy the room, not yourself. I recommend removing it after each use and using the closure cap to safeguard the essence, since it’s such a rare perfume that I only use for special moments. Scent: 7.5/10, Longevity: 9.5/10, Sillage: 5/10, Value: 5/10, Packaging: 10/10. Would I buy it again? No.

Thanks to my friend Fragante Taurien, I was able to wear this true work of art on warm summer nights at the beaches of Tarifa. There’s not much more I can say about Pure Poison Elixir that my companions haven’t already, but I never tire of saying it’s gorgeous. A sweet, fresh, and cozy white floral, delicate yet monumental, all dusted with non-bitter cocoa mixed with slightly vinyl-like vanilla. It makes my mouth water without being recognized as gourmand. I never really paid attention to the light-colored Poison before, but after being enchanted by this and not finding it, I had to give the original version a chance. And luckily, the magic happened too! It’s super similar, but less sweet, less vanilla-heavy, and without that beautiful dose of cocoa. I managed to get a 30 ml bottle at an incredible price. On the plus side, I had the luck to try Jasmin des Anges from Dior’s private collection, and this gives it 1000 times better value at a price 34 times more reasonable. Conclusion: if you have the luck to stumble upon it by chance and you’re a floral lover, holy cow, don’t even think twice—it’s one of the most beautiful symphonies. If Poison is for evil witches, I’ll have Poison for seers who see the future, Hypnotic Poison for sexy witches, and Mindful Poison for love-spell witches… definitely, Pure Poison would be worn by a Galician witch who lives near the beach and dedicates herself to helping Mother Nature. It has good sillage and lasts 6 to 7 hours. It’s a resounding 10.

It’s MAGIC!

If I had to describe this perfume in one word, it would be STUNNING; I don’t understand how this masterpiece can be discontinued. I’ve only had it for a few days and I’ve fallen for it surprisingly. The opening is fresh with a subtle but intoxicating floral touch, an exquisite blend of white flowers. The drydown is where the magic happens… it becomes sweet with the union of cocoa, amber, and vanilla, very well executed and a combination I’ve never smelled before. This aroma transports me to an old square, filled with lights suspended in the trees on a summer night. A very feminine scent with a cheeky innocence. If you are a lover of sweet and special aromas, you should have this with you.

This perfume is undoubtedly a masterpiece. Nowadays it’s very hard to find because it’s discontinued; I adore Pure Poison, but this one is my favorite, it’s very similar with a sweeter touch. Even the kids adore it when you wear it. It’s one of those perfumes you must have in your collection, without a doubt.
