You read all sorts of crazy things here, I know every nose is different and tastes are subjective, but saying this has no violet is insane. Ionone is present throughout almost the entire first hour of the fragrance, and even later in its development, it’s perfectly noticeable in the background. Also, as I always say, we can’t judge a fragrance based on a single spray or a simple decant that barely gives you enough to wear it properly (I’m a minimum of 6 sprays of anything, often more than 10). Price also plays a role, and this Jo Malone perfume is one of the most expensive I’ve seen from the brand, though I haven’t dug too deep into that. This is a beautiful, well-made fragrance; it’s incredible how Anne Flipo managed to perfectly blend two notes that, for me, are opposites—not because they can’t coexist, but because one would devour the other. In this case, the oud: a strong, intense note, yet here, as the house is accustomed to doing, it’s not risky at all. It’s a very wearable oud, very Western (even though the composition is an oriental amber one) that blends beautifully with this ethereal, velvety, slightly sweet violet note with powdery undertones. Everything feels a bit dry here; there are no hints of wet or even animalic oud. Gradually, the composition reveals its amber side, sweetens slightly, and shows very, very subtle smoky tones. The violet and oud never disappear, letting the amber (also not one of the trickiest) come and go as it pleases without stealing the spotlight. The performance isn’t particularly outstanding, which is something to criticize, especially considering its price, but in the first hour after application, it’s perfectly noticeable, then gradually fades until it lasts 4 to 5 hours. I think it could perform better in enclosed spaces, and logically in temperatures that aren’t extremely cold or hot. It could be perfect for transitional autumn or spring stages, and although I’ve only used it twice, both times in enclosed spaces, I might update my thoughts on its behavior later, but knowing the extremely hot climate in my country, I know the heat will devour it before it even reaches 3 hours.
