The 90s were the decade of innovation in men’s perfumes: the herbaceous, powerful fougères of the 80s faded into history, while aquatic and sweet scents emerged. Venezia Uomo is that bridge between what was leaving and what was arriving. At first, it’s classic with tarragon, bergamot, lemon, and lavender—a language of the 80s but more modern. The heart follows tradition, yet features a more prominent jasmine and rose with a floral burst more accentuated than usual for a classic men’s fragrance. The base is comforting, sweet, and unusual: tonka dominates, and it’s curious that it hasn’t yet become the olfactory success it is today, with a bitter rubber note that made me sigh. Venezia Uomo speaks of abundance; it’s infinitely soft, fantastically rich, elegant, and typically Italian.
