The reformulation isn’t bad. It has lost some power and intensity, but it keeps the base of the original I was gifted in 1987. It’s a good classic scent for fans of this genre, quite deep, with leather, amber, and a touch of floral-mossy notes. At some point, it resembles Xeryus and shares moments with Borsalino, another unforgettable classic of the era. It’s a respectable old-school, masculine aroma of a kind that no longer exists.
Excellent 1984 perfume that steers away from traditional aromatic fougère with a lavender and citrus freshness, leaning closer to Gucci Nobile or Francesco Smalto. It has an herbal, coniferous, and mossy base, with soapy geranium and a very assertive spicy note that commands respect. It could remind you of a green soap like Sung Homme or Orlane’s Derrick. Although it plays with leather and dirty nuances, it always stays clean, pleasant, extremely masculine, and versatile. It doesn’t smell dated and works great in the heat. People notice it. Performance is top-notch: good longevity and projection, and the reformulation hasn’t betrayed its essence. A must-have for fougère lovers.
The world of Italian design has an operatic tragedy like Tosca: murders, accidents, and sudden deaths of great names. This Enrico Coveri Pour Homme from Jerry Drake’s Vintage Museum is an 80s classic that blends leather and chypre with spices. Imagine a horse in Cyprus, Montaraz resins, and tack leather, all wrapped in cumin and cardamom. It’s a thick, smoky brew, a perfect contrast that doesn’t come off as vulgar. Everything evolves with elegance and class, maintaining a proverbial balance typical of Italian aesthetics.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but it smells very similar to Calvin Klein’s Obsession: that mossy, dark touch with a soapy, medicinal base. I absolutely love it. It doesn’t project much, but for its style, it’s enough. It’s hard to distinguish from Oscar pour Lui once it dries down.
