  An interesting high-end proposal from Hugo Boss, a brand that usually makes pleasant but slightly ‘safe’ fragrances. While Boss Bottle is a classic I’ve always worn, reformulations have finally killed it. Noble Wood is incredible; it reminds me of Santal 33 but takes a different path. Of the listed notes, I feel two are missing: the sandalwood and cedar are noticeable at first, but the oak takes over with its robust, dry, and mature aroma, sometimes spicy, here accentuated by cardamomo that initially smells dirty, like cumin (I suspect it’s another undeclared note, but very subtle), giving off a sweat-like scent that luckily doesn’t last. Then the cardamomo turns sweet, creamy, and spicy, with a very faint vanilla base that rounds out and balances everything. I don’t detect the whisky note; I feel nothing alcoholic, just clean, creamy, warm, and spicy woods. Performance is good; while it lacks wide projection, its longevity on skin and clothes is solid. It will shine more in spring and fall, but for me, it’s perfect all year round if you moderate the sprays, which is difficult on my complicated skin.
